JoePa and Herbie (Merged then Split again)

So an older coach who has made his bones while most of us were twinkles in our Daddy's eyes is hated because he complains about officials, raises hell on sidelines, and talks smack about his rivals.

Damn.

Do you hate Woody too?

One is a low life bum and the other is a legend?

If this happened 3 years ago I would have probably taken it better. I see it as piling on. Ohio State is seen pretty negative by the media and fans since what has gone on with Clarett, Troy Smith, and the basketball program. It surely doesn't help Ohio State's image when somebody like Joe Paterno makes a joke like that and everybody was loving it in the crowd.

Yes that is how I see it. At least Woody actually made decisions on the sidelines and at least he knew what plays were going in. Paterno is nothing more than a figurehead.

Dude, IT'S A FREAKING JOKE!!! Lighten up and take a Midol.

No wonder most people outside of Ohio think our fans are whiny bitches.

I know a few people who have met Joe Paterno who have said he is the nicest, most modest person you could ever meet.

You really think Woody was much more than that in the end? Woody was listening to plenty of people at the end...if he wasn't, do you think Art would have thrown as much as he did?

I actually think he at least involved himself somewhat in the game plans. He at least knew what plays were going in. Does Paterno even listen to his assistants? I rarely see him near them on the sidelines.

I don't think he would have said that on national television with millions watching.
If the man was breaking sideline markers on national television, I don't agree that he would be very sensitive about a crack on another team. He never minced words and his comments are legendary. It was a different time back then...if the roles were reversed in time, I could definitely see Woody saying it.

How do you know what Joe Pa does in planning sessions? I coached with a guy who played for Holtz at Carolina. He said Lou rode in the golfcart the whole practice and smoked cigarettes...chimed in occasionally, but let his coaches coach. However, when they got into film sessions, Lou knew more than anyone in there on both sides of the ball..had the entire gameplan down pat.

Any proof of this? Know anything about PSU football? Or are you just saying it because he's old?

From what I've heard and read, JoePa is still running the show over there, and while he can't do a lot of the things he used to physically, it's still his system/scheme they run. He is THE offensive innovator of his generation.

AND he's funny...

I honestly believe he does nothing. What exactly can he do at 78 years of age? Give a pep talk every once in a while. You bring up a Woody quote, does that mean Paterno was being honest with his little jab?

That's a great opinion. Have any facts to back it up? Or do you just want to have us read it like it's:

A) More valuable than others
B) An expert opinion
C) needed

It's great that you have one, but don't wave it around like it's the gospel, chief.
