I had ten posts talking shit about Wisky leading up to that game. Are they a rival as well? I had a three paragraph "fuck Indiana" rant before that gane last year. RIVAL! I fucking despise Oregon and Boise. Classic rivalry games there.

A rival is defined to me by history. A history...long history of close games, games that determine B1G championships, a grudging respect, and geographic significance.

PSU ticks one box because they're next door.

Since it's such an unquestioned fact, one would think you could support your own argument and stop demanding that we both prove you wrong and argue it for you. Of course, the last time you defended this rivalry you used 'success against Ohio State' as a form of criteria. When that didn't end well for you, you claimed you didn't lay down any criteria and scoffed at Purdue's inclusion. So I'm sure this time will go much better.

Wisconsin has been much more of a rival than Penn State, and unlike the Happy Valley university that fell apart after joining, they play big boy sports after new years.

That's actually wrong. I was correcting someone that said Penn State didn't have success vs. OSU. Which is ridiculous.

I didn't use that as a criteria. I'd say the fact that they are bordering states and fight for the same recruits helps the rivalry. I'd say that the fact that coaches, players and especially fan bases hate each other makes it a rivalry.

To say that this rivalry is even close to OSU/UM is silly. It's not even close, and PSU fans are butt hurt about that.

I agree that Wisconsin has been a good rivalry as well as it fits the same parameters. Fan bases hate each other.

They do have success. Just not noticeably more than a number of other teams, like the dreadful Boilermakers who have been just as disruptive in recent years.

They fight for some recruits, usually a small handful. Not enough to generate memorable battles. I'm trying to remember the last truly painful OSU-PSU recruiting loss. AJ Wallace?

It's often a great matchup. They have to earn the rank of being a rival, especially against a program with the best rivalry in sports.

When PSU isn't noticeably different than Wisconsin, then their argument as a rival is pretty tepid.

The SEC has epic weekly matchups with vitriol and recruiting battles. That doesn't make them all rivals.
