Jeff Hafley (DC Green Bay Packers)

Per Thamel, Hafley is expected to remain with Ohio State through the end of the season.

Now, Ohio State will be in the market for a new co-defensive coordinator – unless it decides to make Mattison the sole defensive coordinator – and defensive backs coach. Having two co-defensive coordinators (Mattison and Hafley) and an assistant defensive backs coach (Matt Barnes) this season, though, should help provide continuity for whoever fills Hafley's place on the staff.

Ohio State's defensive backs will have their fourth position coach in four years next season, as Hafley and Taver Johnson were each only with the Buckeyes for one season following Kerry Coombs' departure to the NFL's Tennessee Titans after the 2017 season.

When Urban was offered Bowling Green he wanted to turn it down because it wasn't a great job.

Holtz told him he had to prove himself before he got the great jobs.

Harley is a great assistant. He is pretty much a zero as a HC at the moment.

Going to a Midmajor makes sense. You dont need a a homerun staff, recruiting is more even across conference, coaching up talent is more important, you can be good on just 1 side of the ball and make waves (Coord to HC often struggles with the side they havent coached).

Going straight to a P5 bottom feeder is always a dead end.
And we have countless incidents of that in recent years.

Not gonna lie, i hate this. Not even 1yr on the job.

Can we throw ALL OF THE MONEY at the next successful DC that comes along BEFORE the rumblings start?!

Getting tired of losing DC’s every year or two, while Clemson can keep BV without any issue....
It doesn't exactly work that way. Some guys just want to be the man in charge, and no amount of money can keep them as an assistant. And on the flip side, there are a number of guys who don't want the pressure of being the HC or want to remain with less stress. Happens all the time.

I really don’t get it. I understand wanting to take the reigns of a program but nobody has a finger on the pulse of their career better than these guys, themselves. Did Hafley really think that this was the best opportunity that was to come knocking? It’s a MAC school.

My thoughts exactly. It would make more sense to stick around long enough to land a major gig and take some real coaching cache with you. I hope he finds the success he’s seeking. And hopefully not at our expense.
