Jeff Hafley (DC Green Bay Packers)

We have our recruits because of the thin recruitment from 2018 not because of Haf. I love Halfey but I wouldn t expect much attrition if any.

I think that’s selling Hafley short. Richard Sherman said he’s the best DB coach he’s ever had. He has multiple current OSU CB’s saying he’s the best thing that happened to them (Arnette and Okudah).

He’s a massive loss.

And I understand the move although I wish he was going a little higher profile. The flip side of staying at tOSU is they take a step back next year with all the departures, and he misses an opportunity at a multi-million dollar job. Bird in hand better than 2 in bush......

I wish him nothing but success. He’s been my favorite assistant on defensive side of ball I can recall....just the way he handles media, articulated answers to questions, provides info on players. He’s a stud.....

I’m curious to see how this impacts our playoff games. It’d be killer if he’s not in the box.....

Oh no doubt I agree 100% he's a massive loss...

That said this is tOSU and Jeff Halfey isn't why we recruited the position well. He didn't hurt but let's not forget he had an EASY sell.

1. BIA
2. We got no one in 2018
3. We lose everyone in 2019

Fairly straitht forward sell but yes I agree losing Haf blows

Well shit. Was hoping for 2 years... and also think BC is a dead end. Wish the best for Halfley and thank him for his time here. Hope it works out for him, but need a homerun hire to replace him. This hurts.

Don’t get it. It’s a dead-end like Purdue.

How can you look at a University that treated Tom O’Brien and Jeff Jagodzinski the way they did and conclude, Yeah, that’s where I wanna be.
When Urban was offered Bowling Green he wanted to turn it down because it wasn't a great job.

Holtz told him he had to prove himself before he got the great jobs.

Harley is a great assistant. He is pretty much a zero as a HC at the moment.

Bill K’s latest update was positive...ish. He expects all of the DB recruits to sign early and for Day to hit a home run with Hafley’s replacement. My one reservation is that there were no names given as to who that replacement could be.

What will be interesting is to see if they want a DB coach to pair with Mattison or if they’re comfortable with Barnes enough that they feel the entire board is open.

One other thing to consider (not to be a downer) is if Hafley takes Al Washington with him, or any other staff for that matter. He’s a class guy so I think it’s all be above board....a few days ago when I assumed deal was done, the rumor was Hafley HC, Washington at DC.

If Washington leaves I absolutely think Marcus Freeman is in play. If Washington stays, that feels redundant to me.

I think MAC jobs are better stepping stones than dead-end high majors.

The head coach of 7-5 Boston College or Purdue doesn’t get the same opportunities as the 12-1 coach at Western Michigan or Bowling Green.

Darrell Hazell was once on the same staff as a graduate assistant named PJ Fleck. It’s not about the opportunities you take. Sometimes it’s about the opportunities you turn down because they’re not an upgrade, even with a salary bump.

I have turned down career advancement opportunities because I knew if I took the job I’d be unemployed in three years. I’m at sixteen years with my present employer and happy.

Fuck

EDIT: Not shocking with the rumors, but it's still a huge blow. Just impossible to hang onto coordinators. Even before this year, knowing he got an NFL DC offer from the Bengals, it'd be hard to hold onto him.

Not sure how much this affects playoff prep and recruiting, but it can't be good. Here's hoping there really is a homerun hire in the mix.
