yeah, I'd definitely agree with that but you never know in recruiting.

On a side note, it amazes me that top players in Indiana very rarely ever commit to Notre Dame early. I know Indiana isn't exactly a hot-bed for recruiting talent, but the ND staff just must not spend any time trying to lock up the good prospects the state does produce.

NDs primary focus is recruiting on a national scale first, then getting in state kids towards the end of the recruiting process bee tend to do the same with a large number of in state recruits. Gauge the interest of oos recruits first with offers and if they fail with them, go after the die hard in state kids who've always wanted to be buckeyes. But ND has always relied on the history and tradition of ND to lure kids from across the nation. If u look at their roster, they have 3 kids from IN as their offensive skill players and no LBers or DBs from IN, some of that has to do with not much consistent talent being produced in IN and also that ND still has a pull with oos recruits. I mean its telling when they have 4 rbs from CA and 1 from TX. With them going so hard after oos kids it allows other teams to pluck some of their best talent.
I think Jaylon has liked us for some time, but he's realizing that his recruitment is blowing up and he's getting looks from every top team. I think when all the flirting is over, he will join his brother at osu. Not just because of rod, but im sure he has to realize that urban is creating something special in columbus that brian kelly wont be close to replicating. I don't see ND being brought back to real relevance anytime soon

Scout $ - Jaylon Smith Talks Recruiting

2/21

By Trieu....Ran two 4.4 40s at the Midwest Combine, and says he got a bad start on both of his runs. Recruitment is wide open, but will be visiting Notre Dame on March 3rd and Ohio State for some spring practices. Good academics is high on his list and says distance is not a factor, despite his mom wanting him to stay close to home.

Sounds like a really great kid

Well if it's the Buckeye - Irish battle most think it is, I don't think this last part will come into play. Two hours to ND, three hours to OSU. Better it be a kid in Indiana than hearing Joey Bosa's mom wanting him close to home or somebody like that.

yeah, I agree.

Distance thing was probably more or less for the SEC/USC's that have been offering him.

Eifert tweet to football recruit could mean Notre Dame violation
March 02, 2012|By Brian Hamilton | Tribune reporter

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Notre Dame tight end Tyler Eifert evidently was excited to meet recruit Jaylon Smith on the prospect's imminent visit to campus. Perhaps a little too excited, as it turns out.

A post on Eifert's Twitter account Friday night may have run afoul of NCAA restrictions on a current student-athlete publicizing a prospective student-athlete's visit to campus, which could be considered an "institutional" violation.

"We're aware of the tweet and it has been forwarded to our compliance office where they will process it appropriately," athletic department spokesman Brian Hardin said in a statement.

"We take any potential violation of NCAA rules very seriously and we will never compromise on matters of NCAA compliance. Ultimately, this will serve as an excellent teaching moment for all of our teams and student-athletes."

Just before 8 p.m. ET on Friday, Eifert posted the following message to his Twitter account: "Big recruiting day tomorrow here at ND. Looking forward to meeting and hangin with 5 star Fort Wayne native @JaeeSmiff9ENT"

The Twitter handle in that tweet belongs to Smith, a linebacker from Bishop Luers High School in Eifert's hometown of Fort Wayne, Ind. And that message seemingly is in violation of NCAA bylaw 13.10.5, which refers to publicization of a prospective student-athlete's visit.

"A member institution shall not publicize (or arrange for publicity of) a prospective student-athlete?s visit to the institution?s campus," the bylaw reads. "Violations of this bylaw do not affect a prospective student-athlete?s eligibility and are considered institutional violations per Constitution 2.8.1."

An NCAA spokesman added via email: "So a student-athlete cannot publicize a prospective student-athlete's visit to his or her institution's campus."

Eifert's tweet was later deleted from his account.

Still, even if Eifert's tweet indeed broke NCAA rules, Notre Dame may not have a steep price to pay. Without commenting specifically on this instance, the NCAA spokesman said that secondary violations are those considered "isolated" and "inadvertent" and offering "no competitive advantage."
