Jaylon Smith (LB Green Bay Packers)

Call me a Cassandra, but if ND is in the lead, and Dad sees that this will give his child playing time and a great undergrad degree, why not commit now.......they can throw out the 'only so many schollies left' and let the trout jump to the fly, or ?

Methinks that come Monday, someone will say that Jaylon has committed to the Domers.....Hope I'm wrong, but don't think so.

Ultimately, I think the kid wants to separate himself from bigger brother, and what way than to commit to Notre Dame. They DO have an impressive collection of recruits (last year and this) to show that the team is a-building. I'd probably go that direction if it was me.....and I'm a third generation Buckeye-degreed person.....

It seems like ND annually lands some of the top recruits and yet it still rarely gives them more wins or a real shot at a NC. I hope we're able to land Jaylon, but going to ND seems like he's going to play on a 6-7 win team for 3-4yrs.

Perkins on Smith's choice....
Have you talked to Jaylon Smith? Do you think he ends up Buckeye?

DP: I have talked to him a few times. I think he is interested in Ohio State but I think he will go to either ND or another school. I think having Rod here is a minus because he does not want to be in the shadow of his big brother.

Rod is a RB and Jaylon is a LB. Jaylon is not going to be in Rod's shadow...

In high school I felt like I was in my older brother's shadow even though I didn't play the same position. I wouldn't personally have wanted it otherwise, and it'd be completely different at a big football school like OSU, but I can relate to the feeling.

I also don't see what shadow Jaylon would be in, since rod hasn't cast one while in s&G. It'd be different if he had been coming off of a 1000yd season or even close. He may one day be a very good to even great rb. But at this time he's 3rd string and for all we know could end up being in Jaylons shadow. I sure hope we can get him in this class. A group of him and , perkins at olb would just be ridiculous

Maybe that's part of it as well? Maybe Jaylon doesn't want to go and "upstage" his brother?

Honestly, it makes sense to me that some guys would rather not go play with their brothers. Maybe Jaylon just wants to start his own legacy someplace else.

I concur with that. These are still kids that are making adult decisions. I can easily see him picking another school to not be linked to his brother. I mean didn't they go to different high schools? Its not like they were teammates, Jaylon has already staked his own path.
