Penn State vs. Ohio State football: James Franklin questioned as Nittany Lions melt down against Buckeyes



This is becoming a recurring theme for the Penn State coach. With Saturday's loss, Franklin fell to 1-10 against top-10 opponents during his time at Penn State. The Nittany Lions have lost their two games against top-10 opponents this season by a combined 37 points. Some of the same problems that plagued Penn State in the Michigan loss reared up again late in Saturday's game, dooming Penn State to another fall in a big spot.



Things fell apart in a major way in the fourth quarter. Penn State's offense made one too many mistakes — including a strip-sack of quarterback Sean Clifford that led to Ohio State taking a 30-21 lead — and the defense started to wilt against Ohio State's run game after stuffing Ohio State over the other three quarters.



This is how quickly things fell apart for Penn State. It took just over one minute for Ohio State to capture all of the momentum. It started with a 41-yard touchdown run from TreVeyon Henderson, which gave the Buckeyes their first lead since early in the third quarter. JT Tuimoloau then sacked Clifford and forced a fumble. On the very next play, Buckeyes quarterback C.J. Stroud hit tight end Cade Stover for a touchdown. From that point on, Penn State did not have an answer.

Penn State’s James Franklin: Revenue sharing with players ‘inevitable’​

Penn State coach James Franklin believes major college players will inevitably be paid and the sooner it happens the better it will be for all involved with the sport.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Franklin said that while college sports leaders are focused on finding ways to regulate how athletes are compensated for use of their name, image and likeness, a bigger change is on the horizon.

“I also think that ultimately, whether it’s in the next three years or next five years or next two years, there’s going to be some form of revenue sharing or collective bargaining agreement (with the players),” Franklin told AP. “That’s going to happen. I think that’s inevitable.

“And I think most people would prefer that than the current model because I think it’s better for the student-athletes because they’re going to be able to get contracts and know what they’re signing up for. And I think for the schools as well, I think there’s going to be value in knowing what you’re dealing with.”

Just sayin': He's probably right.
