James “not elite” Franklin (HC Penn St. Nittany Lions)

James Franklin halts job speculation, agrees to new 10-year deal at Penn State

James Franklin has agreed to a new 10-year contract to remain as the Penn State head football coach through 2031.

The terms were approved by the Subcommittee on Compensation of the Penn State Board of Trustees on Tuesday.

The deal was announced in a school-issued news release.

The contract includes a yearly base salary of $7 million, retention bonuses of $500,000 each year and a $1 million annual loan for life insurance. Franklin previously signed a six-year deal in 2019. The terms of that contract would’ve had him earn $5.75 million next season with a $250,000 raise each remaining year.

Franklin’s future at Penn State had been a topic of much speculation in recent weeks, with his name linked to job openings at both Southern California and LSU.

Just sayin': Both James Franklin and Mel Tucker got very lucrative long term contracts a couple years ago because of speculation that they might leave (i.e. PSU & MSU) for another vacancy. In reality the other school(s) probably never would have offered them. Regardless, here's a serious suggestion for James Franklin:

DON'T HAVE PHONE SEX WITH BRENDA TRACY (OR ANY OTHER WOMAN AND/OR MAN FOR THAT MATTER).........

I'm really starting to come around to the idea that these big money making schools are more motivated to keep the status quo than ever fire a coach for not winning championships.

I mean, let's be honest...Franklin is a just god enough coach. He beats the teams he's supposed to beat and that is about it. PSU is happy though because the money is pouring in from a huge alumni base (that just enough winning keeps engaged) and the B1G tv money.

Short of a scandal, you may never see these kind of guys get fired again.

He's right in line with Dear Leader's last 20 years or so.
