And now there’s Clary Travis, an indisputably sharp writer who isn’t afraid to offer dissenting opinions. He’s capable of insightful analysis – the guy’s a lawyer. He can also troll with the best of them - he wrote a piece ranking the dumbest fanbases in America, where
Ohio State finished third. He was very critical of Urban Meyer regarding the Aaron Hernandez situation, and
he criticized Meyer about Carlos Hyde as well. But while Travis can bait fans, he’s not a one-trick pony.
This week, he wrote about the Jameis Winston situation at
Florida State compared to the Hyde situation at Ohio State. They are different – but how the coaches are handling them can be compared to some degree.
And Travis wrote that if Meyer continued to play Winston in this situation, he’d get killed by the media because “Urban Meyer and Ohio State are being held to a different standard than Florida State.”
Fans too often take any criticism from the media as “hating.” More often than not, it’s just a writer with an opinion (we’re not talking about the Mark May song and dance). But if fans can take the criticism and handle it, a good, fair writer will eventually come around and make a point the other way that fans may find themselves agreeing with.
