Jameis Winston (QB Browns)

This smells like consensual sex, morning-after regret, and realization that, "Oh, I guess I fucked up when I accused the Heisman front-runner of doing something he really didn't do."

I wish it smelled like something else, but I'm thinking this is a Frank Drebin moment.

Well, things just got a lot more interesting and shady. Not the official statement I was waiting for, but this has one heck of a foul odor to it now. Let's see what else works its way out before the ACC championship game.

I read through a couple of the FSU boards, and they're really Hokeing pathetic.

I just can't fathom the need for some Hoketards to identify so closely with players they've never met in their lives not to mention more than a few of whom are barely literate and would spit in your face and steal your iphone at the drop of a hat.

I have a question for our legal beagles... If This happened in december, and was reported immediately after.. the girl decided not to pursue the issue in february. That is two months. Is it strange that the DA didnt know anything about the case until now?

Alleged FSU victim speaks out

The attorney for the accuser in a sexual-assault investigation that involves Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston was told by a detective that the woman's life could "be made miserable" if she pursued charges, according to a statement by the accuser's family given to the Tampa Bay Times.

The statement says that recent media reports compelled the woman and her family to make a statement.

According to the statement, the woman said she was raped on Dec. 7, 2012, and reported it to law enforcement. The woman, a student at Florida State, identified the perpetrator as Winston in January and became concerned "that she would be targeted on campus."

An attorney friend contacted Detective Scott Angulo of the Tallahassee Police Department, who told the lawyer that "Tallahassee was a big football town and the victim needs to think long and hard before proceeding against him because she will be raked over the coals and her life will be made miserable," according to the statement.

The statement says that the attorney told Angulo police needed to collect DNA and do blood work to make a more informed decision; however, the detective said police would not pursue samples from Winston because the case would go public. The family said it asked other times for samples to be collected and was under the impression that only police knew of the matter.

At this point, I'd say its every bit as likely that it was regret as much as it could have been peer pressure (or flat out threats). I'll wait for the District's/State's decision on whether or not to press charges to see if something sells fishy at that time with that decision and what is said about it.
I agree with this. Bottom line is that it could be anything from coverup of actual assault, to opportunism by a regretful sex partner, to pretty much anything in between. I said what it "smelled like" to me, but I'll admit that could be last week's shrimp that didn't quite drain out of the garbage disposal.

let the cover-up begin....

It would appear it was already in full swing.
The case' detective tacitly warning the victim and her family.
The case being swept under the carpet for at least 9 months.
Then the day it gets dredged up, handing it off inconspicuously to the State in a rather obvious attempt to pass the buck.
His lawyer stating that they are "cooperating with police", while simultaneously refusing to provide any statement (verbal or written) to police.

A Tallahassee police spokesman told the Times on Nov. 8 that an incident was reported after a woman took a drink from an unknown person and left a Tallahassee bar in a cab. According to a heavily redacted police report, the woman said a sexual assault happened between 1:30 and 2 a.m. Tallahassee police responded to a call about two hours later.

After the woman — a Florida State student from the Tampa Bay area — identified Winston as the suspect in early January, "the family grew concerned that she would be targeted on campus" and requested assistance from an attorney friend, according to the statement.

"When the attorney contacted Detective (Scott) Angulo immediately after Winston was identified, Detective Angulo told the attorney that Tallahassee was a big football town and the victim needs to think long and hard before proceeding against him because she will be raked over the coals and her life will be made miserable," the family said.

This has the markings of an actual assault all over it.
The only question I have is if the perpetrator really was Winston. Given her mental state and the time difference between identifying the assailant... I don't know. Assuming from the information given that she was drugged, how accurate would her recollection of the assailant be? Is Winston identified as the one who administered the drug, the assailant, both... and/or a conspirator?
But that really appears to be the only weakness in her case. She would probably be forced to relive the entire event on the stand in court in order to pursue this, and I've already seen the FSU crowd baying for her blood and acting like they (and Winston) are the victims... just like the PSU psychos.

At Ohio State, we suspend players 3 games for so much as having a minor altercation with a woman.
In other places, they cover up rapes and vilify the victims. =/ It's a crazy world.

There was a shitload of things to not ruin. Come on.
