Izzo meets with the Cavs to discuss job offer.

I don't view IZZO as a stupid person. There's no way he's seriously considering jumping to the NBA.

This has to be a ploy to get more money out of MSU.

he doesn't need a ploy to get more money from msu, all he has to do is ask.

aren't you supposed to be telling everyone how usc is going to get off with a slap on the wrist?

Izzo coaches an NBA system in college and puts a huge focus on defense. I think we can safely assume he understands match-ups better than Mike Brown did.

Calipari has made a career out of recruiting the best talent. Pitino has done the same and presses for 40 minutes with better athletes....when he has them. Louisville wasn't very athletic this year and they were weak.

Izzo isn't either of those guys. He preaches fundamentals and tough nose defense. He also has a solid track-record of NBA ready players.

I think Izzo would make a great NBA coach..in Cleveland or elsewhere, And I'd certainlt take him before Byron Scott and Avery Johnson is going to get his doors blown in in New Jersey, IMO. Izzo is a great hire if they can get him....

Izzo tells AP, MSU players he's still torn on Cavs job

Larry Lage
Associated Press

Tom Izzo is still torn, trying to figure out if he should stay at Michigan State or leave to coach the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Izzo wrote in a text message Friday morning -- about 12 hours after he returned home from Cleveland -- he has not made a decision.

Later that afternoon, Izzo also told his players that, according to a person at the meeting. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the meeting was to be confidential.

Izzo flew to Cleveland on Thursday and visited with the Cavs for several hours. Among the questions facing Izzo is whether he'd be able to coach LeBron James, who can't sign until July. Izzo, however, can't wait that long to decide.

"Thinking about it" doesn't often lead to a change. If he really was interested, I'm sure he would've already accepted.

Conversely, this delay could be due to the finalization of contract details. If he were intent on staying at MSU, he would've declined the Cavs' offer already.

APSources at Michigan State say coach Tom Izzo told his team he will announce his decision regarding the Cavs head coach position on Saturday.

CLEVELAND, Ohio ? Tom Izzo will continue his coaching career somewhere next fall and he'll do it in a high-profile job, but which job it will be continues to be a saga of Izzo's making.

Share Friday, a day after he spent nine hours with Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert in Cleveland, Izzo called a second team meeting this week with his Michigan State players. Again, he didn't say whether he would come back to coach a team that is expected to be a national championship contender or to go to the Cavaliers, with or without LeBron James.

At least several players left this meeting believing Izzo was going to accept the Cavs' offer, a source told The Plain Dealer. Izzo told people Friday that he would come to a decision soon but that it wouldn't be Saturday, according to sources. There is a general feeling among Michigan State officials that Izzo will either accept the Cavs job or finally turn it down by Monday.

Source: LeBron James '100 percent' behind Cleveland Cavaliers' bid to hire Tom Izzo | cleveland.com

Cavs owner Dan Gilbert said last week that James is not involved in the search for a replacement for Mike Brown, but sources have indicated James approves of the highly-respected Izzo. James also said in an interview with Larry King that he doesn't want to be heavily involved with selecting his next coach.

But James "100 percent" would endorse Izzo's hiring, the source said.

Izzo, meanwhile, is still pondering the Cavs job. On Sunday, Izzo told several Michigan-based reporters via text messages that he was "still gathering" in regards to the Cavs' offer. Gathering facts and opinions, it is assumed. Perhaps even attempting to gather information from James' himself.

Lansing (Mich.) television station WLNS reported on Sunday that Izzo is waiting to speak directly with James, which the station reported had not happened as of Sunday night.
