Finally some good news for Michigan.

If you think this is good news for UM fans because MSU may not have the success nationally that they've recently enjoyed, you may have a point. If you think this is good news for UM fans because UM will have a better basketball program than MSU going forward, I have a feeling you're going to be disappointed.

MSU assistant says Izzo told team of Cavs talks

Michigan State assistant coach Mark Montgomery says Tom Izzo called a team meeting Tuesday, informing his players he has talked to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Montgomery says Izzo told the Spartans to focus on classes and workouts. Izzo did not tell the Spartans he was leaving the school to coach the Cavs.
Cavs general manager Chris Grant has confirmed that the team has been in contact with Izzo and other candidates.

The Cavaliers fired Brown less than two weeks following their second-round loss to the Boston Celtics. Brown, named the NBA's coach of the year in 2009, led the Cavs to 127 regular-season wins the past two seasons but couldn't get LeBron James and the team back to the NBA finals.

Delvon Roe's father says Tom Izzo didn't tell Spartans he's leaving

Tom Izzo and his players met Tuesday night, and now -- as is often the case when things get hot -- some random blog is claiming the meeting was to say good-bye. Wrong.

I'd like to ignore stuff like this altogether, but when you get calls and e-mails on something, you have to at least look into it and respond. Delvon Blanton, Delvon Roe's father, told me today the meeting lasted two hours, and Izzo told his players the situation and let everyone say some words. To sum it up, they told him they want him to stay, he told them he feels the same way about them but also that a decision has not been made.

Personally, I think Izzo would be crazy to take the Cavs job. He has a great thing at MSU. The NBA is where good college coaches go to die.

Has a college coach ever went to an NBA team that had the talent to win a championship? Serious question...

There's no way Izzo goes to the Cavs if Lebron leaves, but if LJ stays I couldn't blame Izzo for leaving MSU.

I don't blame Izzo if LeBron stays either, but as a Cavs fan I'm honestly not happy about this. I understand Cleveland isn't San Diego (i.e. the weather sucks, economy sucks, etc) but can't we get someone that is a proven winner in the NBA rather than a successful college coach? This just seems like a pretty big gamble if LeBron wants to go/stay somewhere to get a ring.

Windhorst was reporting that if Izzo were to take the job he has already been making calls around the NBA looking for a proven assistant coach to bring with him. Izzo is a smart guy, his potential as an NBA coach is very high and if he does come to Cleveland he will find proven NBA assistants to make the transition as easy as possible.
