Tom Allen has agreed to a new seven-year contract through the 2027 season that will pay him an average salary of $4.9 million per year

Iowa announced Tuesday (in 2016) a six-year contract extension for head football coach Kirk Ferentz that will keep him in his position through the 2025 season. Ferentz will make $4.5 million a year under the new contract, vaulting him into the top eight highest-paid coaches in college football

Damn, Ton Allen now makes more than the perennial B1G COY.......

I never thought I would live to the day when I could actually see this headline. https://www.cleveland.com/osu/2021/...-michigan-or-penn-state-hey-buckeye-talk.html

Yes this is a special year for IUFB with the transfers that have come in and our returning injured players that missed 2020. If teams aren't ready for this year's Hoosiers they will be looking back wondering what happened. I think OSU coming to Bloomington could be a major win for the Hoosiers. I could see us coming in 6-0, it will be tough to get to the game 6-0, and get after OSU to get to 7-0.

It is interesting OSU is changing to IU's 4-2-5 defense this season.

I mean I do agree with part of the premise, the IU game is likely to be a tougher test than the scUM game. That said, nervous? Nah

They have to play @ Iowa the first game of the year, Cincinnati and @ Ped State before they play us.

Its far from a "given" that they are undefeated going into our game.

I'd bet good money they have at least 1 loss.

It's tough for me to dislike Indiana, and I remember 1987 and 1988 games. And good for them for being cocky this year. I hope they show M*ch*gan and Penn State that they're no longer the Big Ten doormat. Then I hope that Ohio State shows them that they're all Big Ten doormats.

They're basketball arrogance is more than enough for me to say fuck 'em in football too. And I remember 87 and 88 too. Fuck 'em.

Did they read the article?

I have been lukewarm on IU. Inside that 14-7 record over the past two seasons you’ll find one win over a team that ended the season with a winning record. The Hoosiers received a lot of credit last season for falling behind 35-7 at OSU, never tying the game before losing by a touchdown.

On the other hand, Pro Football Focus listed Indiana as one of four teams with four players ranked in the top 10 at their positions: Penix, receiver Ty Fryfogle, linebacker Micah McFadden and cornerback Tiawan Mullen.

Sure, OSU is still one of the teams ahead of IU with six top-10 picks. But if these transfers help the Hoosiers take another step, that Nov. 6 game in Bloomington becomes the biggest in the Big Ten.
That's nervous?

That said, I don't remember '87 or '88...but fuck 'em anyway.

Grey Beard Perspective:

They were absolutely certain that they’d overtaken Ohio State permanently... irreversibly. They appear to have learned nothing from the experience.

They’re overdue for a lesson

It is going to be very hard to live up to expectations this year, if you are IU. You can bet that they are treating the Buckeye game with the same intensity that the Buckeyes treat the Wolverine game.

And you can bet that IU won't sneak up on anyone this year. Teams like IU, Purdue, Illinois, etc sneak some great wins in by teams sleeping on them. IU was fortunate enough to have a perfect storm of a game against OSU: pandemic shortened season that forced no off season, OSU falling asleep while holding a lead, looking past IU, and Penix playing out of his mind. Day and co. will be completely awake and ready on October 23rd.

“Well, they are the gold standard and that is who we're chasing,” Allen said. “And our one word for 2021 is chase and we're trying to chase that greatness every single day. You think about that game and you often think about post-games and comments that are made and as I was sharing my heart to our team I didn't even think about or realize that there were videoing it, but at the same time, it's, oftentimes when you have those types of setbacks and you learn a lot about yourself, and I feel like adversity is where we really become who we are.

"Started that game and dug a big hole, and they're a very talented football team and they took advantage. But we just came storming right back. So I just, the toughness, the fight, the character that I thought that our team displayed by fighting and just, by just gritting your teeth and just locking that bit and locking that jaw and just not giving in no matter how bad it looked, because it was ugly for a big part of that first half.

“But I think I said it on the way out. I think we're going to learn a lot about this football team in these next two quarters and we did. So I didn't want to leave that locker room without those guys hearing from me. I knew we had a long trip home. I wanted them to hear from me what I thought about them, and I wanted them to understand how we needed to use this opportunity to grow and allow us to continue to build this program. So it was definitely, that might have been as big a moment in the 2020 season as any was in that moment in that locker room after that tough loss.”

His biggest coaching job this year is going to be in protecting/rebuilding their psyche when a better IU team gets their doors blown off in Bloomington. I’m not minimizing the Hoosiers here; I think there’s a good chance this is the Buckeyes’ best opponent in the regular season. But I believe the Buckeyes, from Day down to the trainers, will all be on point for this one and the massive talent disparity will be on full display
