Indians Tidbits (2009 season)

All I have to say is Wow. When I started my drive home from work, the Indians were up 7-2. By the time I got home, it was tied. It says a lot about this team that I was surprised we were even tied.

Nice catch by Francsisco incidentally.

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Fuck this "team".

How can a pitching staff manage to walk Soriano twice?

If Wedge isn't fired at the All-Star break, and we know he won't be, this front office just stopped caring or is more delusional than most think possible.

And that's it. Despite how bad this season has been. Despite how often the bullpen had been letting us down. It's June 19 and I''ve finally given up. Season's over.
Not to Shapiro. Once Grady comes back and if Jake ever makes it back...they're primed for a run. Just biding their time.

That's sarcasm...really, season's over and has been since April. I'm waiting for Wedge to start mentioning "schematic advantage".

The worst team ERA in MLB - even worse than the Nationals - does in the Tribe again. A 7-0 lead after 4 innings, with Cliff Lee, and they find a way to blow it.

Season ERA:

Joe Smith 6.17
Perez 11.09
Wood 4.81
Vizcaino 5.40

With those pen options I'd let my starters arms fall off. Herges and Betancourt (DL) are the only ones who have been worth a shit.

...and Betancourt was spotty at best. Oh, and you forgot:
J. Lewis: 5.56
Wood: 4.81
Kobayashi: 8.38*
Z. Jackson: 9.35*
Aquino: 4.50

*Not on the roster, but drives the point home.

Why Perez is even still on the roster is beyond me. He's become a bigger mess than Carmona was.

But, once again, as bad as they are now (and they are baaaaaaaaaaad), they'll manage to put together a run in August/September when the pressure off thus dooming us to another year of Wedge and his offensively imbecilic machinations.

Since I'm all in for a firesale, here's an opinion of possible trading chips...

Victor- Love the guy, the heart and soul of this team, but right now, he'll command the most in return. A team like Boston or the Mets looking for a big bat at first base would probably part with at least one high-level prospect and one, maybe two other pretty decent ones. Less than we got for Sabathia last year, but still pretty good. Victor deserves to win, and it ain't gonna happen here.
DeRosa- It's a shame he's stuck on a shit team, because he's having a helluva year. Good bat and one of the most versatile players in the game. Would be very valuable on a team looking to make a run. Could net a similar return to what we got for Blake last year.
Pavano- If (BIG IF) he can get healthy and pitch like he did for most of April and May, might be able to get a decent prospect in return or at least somebody to help sure up the bullpen in the future.
Cliff- This is a tough one, because if you trade him, you have nothing at all in the rotation next year. Rebuilding or not, you need at least one capable guy in the rotation and who knows if, or when, Fausto will get back. Good lefties are always in demand and though his numbers aren't as strong as last year, he's proving 2008 was no fluke. Could net another big time prospect, but, it would be at the expense of jettisoning your only capable starter.
Peralta- He's a mess right now, so I don't know if he could bring shit in return. besides that, Hodges just isn't coming along, and somebody needs to play 3rd next year.
Wood- Big salary, injury prone...I don't know if he could bring much in, but some teams always overpay for relief as the deadline nears. But if he goes, who attempts to close games when needed?
Garko- Provides a decent enough bat off the bench, but his complete inability to play anything resembling defense anywhere severely limits who would show any interest.

Those are the guys I see as possibly viable pieces, interested to see what others think. I really doubt Shapiro does much, but a couple more weeks of this, I think he may come to his senses. To me, DeRosa would be the most likely to go, followed by Victor. I don't think they'll move Lee for the reasons I've stated above. Pavano is complaining of neck soreness and has been atrocious his past two outings, so I doubt there'll be any takers there given his history. Peralta probably has next to no trade value, and unfortunately may be a neccessity at 3rd unless they want to bring in a retread. Jamey Carroll isn't the answer. Woods bloated salary and underperformance probably nixes him unless he gets hot and a team is desperate. Garko has little value as there are probably several players available who could provide just as much offense and can actually put on a glove and not look like Gheorge Murasan chasing around Muggsy Bogues.

The pigeon coop has now allowed 46 baserunners in the last 17 IP...that's obscene.
Another fun fact...they've scored 32 runs in the last four games and have zero wins to show for it. That's not a team that's just waiting for a player or two to return from injury to make a run.
