Indians Tidbits (2009 season)

Maybe Marte is the real deal and is finally catching on to major league pitching or maybe I should come to my senses:blush:. I don't know it might get interesting but he still lacks the power if he is going to play either 1st or 3rd base but I don't know where the Indians are going to get that power from next season.

It would be very nice if Sowers or Huff could give us at least 7 innings. I guess I might even take a full six from them. The more I see of Masterson the more I think he might be better off as a middle reliever but maybe he needs to build up his arm strength. I like Laffey as a starter rather than middle relief. Out of these four guys, he seems to be the one who consistently can go a little longer.

I am afraid that the Indians are weighing too many games again as the season Winds down. This will just give Shapiro the excuse to rehire his buddy as manager. I just don't like Wedge. He never takes any chances and I sort of like an aggressive baseball team.

It will be very interesting to see what happens with JP. We might have a third baseman at AA but from what I read he has been regressing a little and how long can you really wait for a good hitting third baseman. Maybe we will have to live with JP for a couple more seasons and just hope that someone can get through to him during spring training.

I said about a week ago that Masterson was going to bomb in his next start. they were building his arm strength and pitch count supposedly. but, apparently that means going 4-5 innings at 60-70 pitches, to going 7+ and 100+ pitches the following start. It was clear that after his great performance that he didn't quite bounce back all the way as his control was bad, and a lot of his pitches were flatter than normal.

but, the next time wedge utilizes a kid the right way will be the first.

but if your 3-5 spots in the rotation can give you 6 solid each time out, you should be happy. however, of the 3, sowers is the one that is looking more like a mid/long relief guy.

also, while I'm on a roll, I wonder if Wedge has noticed that since he started using guys at 1 inning clips instead of trying to stretch them out, that the bullpen has been markedly better.

from what I saw in his last start, it looked like he was overthrowing on a lot of his pitches....

eh, not sure I would call it "regressing", Chisenhall is only 20 years old and has only had 56 ABs in AA

Peralta isn't going anywhere IMO. If for nothing else, that there's no other options and he's cheap. Hodges isn't a ML 3B at this point (probably never will be) and the guy you're talking about (Chisenhall) is still a couple years off...maybe at some point in 2011 if he develops properly. I do like him way more than I ever did Hodges.

Tribe wins. Fuck, part of me likes seeing these guys grinding out wins like this. Another part of me worries it's gonna make a case for Wedge keeping his job. That thought depresses the ever-loving hell out of me. :so:
