Indians Tidbits (2008 season)

Three in a row to the Rockies.

I didn't really bother following. I saw Sowers was starting and just assumed it was a loss. They manage 4 hits and whiff 10 times against a pitcher with a six and a half earned run average coming in. Comedy.

the tribe is basically a mediocre AAA team right now with all the injuries and makeshift roster.

 if the opposing pitcher has a ERA over 5.5 you can pretty much assume they are going to mow down the Indians lineup

why they keep throwing Sowers out there is beyond me, but I guess this is the same team that keeps clinging to Andy Marte

With Sowers it seems to be that there's just not much choice with all the injuries. I think we're stuck trotting him out there every five days for batting practice until Fausto comes back. Marte? No earthly idea. Looks like Shapiro's stubborn ass is just unwilling to admit that the guy isn't going to amount to shit. I don't see how it really matters because it's not like we really lost all that much to pick him up. I liked Coco, but he hasn't really done much in Boston.

Cleveland Indians lose to Colorado, 6-3

Friday, June 20, 2008 Paul Hoynes
Plain Dealer Reporter
Denver- For the third straight night the Indians were run out of Coors Field. Willy Taveras, their former minor-league center fielder, was the man who chased them out of the ballpark.
Taveras had three infield hits, including two bunts, and scored twice as the Rockies beat the Indians, 6-3, to complete a three-game interleague sweep. The In- dians barely managed to outscore Ta veras in the series, 7-5.
Jorge De La Rosa (2-3, 6.52), the Tribe's former punching bag, struck out a career-high 10 in six innings for the victory. Greg Reynolds, Jeff Francis and De La Rosa, the three starting pitchers who beat the Tribe in this series, are a combined 7-13.

Cleveland Indians are done, so it's time to look ahead, says The Plain Dealer's Terry Pluto

The '08 Tribe is done - let plans for '09 team begin
Friday, June 20, 2008

It's over.
For the Indians, an ex tended spring training has begun - and down deep, the front office has to know it.
There will be no contention this season, not even in the pathetic American League Central Division.
Not with the Indians being 8-9 in June and ranking last in the AL with a .246 batting average. Not with them having the second worst bullpen (4.83 ERA) in the AL. Not with them scoring two or fewer runs in 25 of 72 games this season.
This is not a trend. It's not a bad start. It's not something that will soon change because key players are getting healthy. Let's not hear that the Indians are 26-11 when they score at least four runs. Problem is, too often, they don't - and with all the injuries and slumps, they won't.
The season was 44 percent gone heading into Thursday night's game at Colorado, the Indians having only 90 games left. They took the field in Denver 7? games behind the Chicago White Sox, and also behind Minnesota and Detroit.
The most discouraging stat is the Tribe being 13-16 in the Central, compared to 21-11 for the White Sox.

I totally agree with everything that Pluto says in that article. The only thing he didn't mention was the trade the entire infield and not just Blake. Keep the four young outfielders but everyone else should be on the platter.

quite frankly, outside of Carmona and Sizemore, there really isn't anyone on that team that should be "untouchable". Maybe Victor.

but yes, blow it up, get an infusion of prospects and promote the young guys.

After getting swept by the miserable Rockies, this season is finished. I agree w/ tsteele, except I'd also like to see us hold on to Fransisco, Laffey, and maybe Choo.

The Official Site of The Cleveland Indians: News: Indians acquire Fasano from Braves

DENVER -- Kelly Shoppach is the Indians' everyday catcher, now that Victor Martinez is out for a while. But Shoppach, of course, can't be counted on to play every day.

Knowing this, the Indians opted to bring in a more experienced backup catcher than the one they were carrying.

Enter 36-year-old Sal Fasano, who was acquired Thursday from the Braves for a player to be named later. Yamid Haad was designated for assignment.

 you know you are in some shit when you have to trade for Sal Fasano
