Indians Tidbits (2007 Season)

Everyone step back from the ledge......7-0 Tribe on 8 hits in the first two innings......

Would you open the window so I can get one foot back in for about a week:) since they have a 3 1/2 game lead.

......Blake has had better seasons though....

Wedge and Blake went to the same college so maybe we are stuck with him through 2010.Marte is out of options so they won't be able to send him back to the minors next year and I don't think you will get any significant playing time when they caught him up the September. Everybody bashes JP but he is sitting for a higher average and has driven in more runs than Blake.

Huge 4-0 lead in the first against Santana. Grady led with a single, cabrerra homered. One batter latter Martinez homered. Gutz doubled and Lofton base hit single to score Gutz. I am stunned!

Man on first, two outs, Gomez at bat.

Edit: Gomez singles, Lofton to second. Indians bat around with Blake at bat in the 9 spot.

Big win and Detroit is trailing 5-0 in the 6th. Good to see them waking up from a 6 week slumber, and I'm becoming a big Asdrubal fan.

One of the guys I work with told me about him before he was called up, and since he was called up I was a fan.

the Tigers are fading...KC takes the first 2 of the series with a 5-0 win tonight

the Indians are looking pretty strong and hold a nice 4 1/2 game lead.

Every win the Indians get with KC, who really isn't too shabby, actually beating the Tigers and allowing them to pull away is huge.

They played a good team game tonight. Good win against one of the best in the Bigs, handing him his 4th loss of the year against the Tribe. Wasn't it true that before this year no one had beaten Johan even 3x in one season?? It helps when we usually match up CC Or Fausto against him.

Tribe solves Santana again

By Scott Priestle

The Columbus Dispatch

CLEVELAND -- For one eye-opening inning last night, the best pitcher in baseball was vulnerable. Johan Santana struggled to throw strikes in the bottom of the first, and with each pitch outside the zone, the scales tipped further in the Indians' favor.

Grady Sizemore lined a single on a 2-and-1 count. Asdrubal Cabrera rifled a fastball over the fence on a 3-and-1 count. Victor Martinez turned on a fastball on a 2-and-1 count.
C.C. Sabathia sat in the dugout enjoying every hit. If the Indians still need to catch the league's attention -- and Sabathia thinks they do -- they made quite a statement by beating Santana and the Minnesota Twins 4-3 last night.

INDIANS INSIDER
When he's not running, Barfield's sitting

Thursday, August 30, 2007 Paul Hoynes
Plain Dealer Reporter
Josh Barfield lost his job Aug. 15 and conceivably will be on the bench until the end of the season. Barfield, the Indians' starting second baseman for 110 games this season, probably isn't going to get a whole lot better this way, but right now, with the Indians trying to reach the postseason, his main job will be pinch running.
"He's handled it great," said manager Eric Wedge. "I talked to Josh before we made the move. He's been a great teammate and he's continued to work hard."
The Indians acquired Barfield from San Diego for Kevin Kouzmanoff over the winter to be their starting second baseman. A second-half slump - Barfield is hitting .185 (17-for-92) since the All-Star break - forced the Indians to replace him with rookie Asdrubal Cabrera.

ANDY CALL

CLEVELAND A baseball season doesn?t reach its sixth month without some surprises. In Cleveland, sometimes they even are pleasant ones.

Indians Manager Eric Wedge on Wednesday spent a few moments discussing right-hander Fausto Carmona, left-hander Rafael Perez, outfielder Franklin Gutierrez and second baseman Asdrubal Cabrera. All have provided key contributions to a first-place team.

?A number of guys have done outstanding jobs in more pivotal roles than you might have imagined,? Wedge said.
