Indians Fans... Claim they are the best, but are they?

basically, what's happened to the jake is the same at what's happening all across the country. the average fan has gotten priced out.

it's pretty much just companies and their employees at the games now. they are there to socialize, and don't really care about the game.

the attendance is not what's bothering me. it's the lack of noise that's annoying. with the way this team is pitching and playing, anytime there's 2 outs and 2 strikes on the opposing team (ESPECIALLY in the late innings), the place should be rocking. instead, they are barely making a peep.

the applause is so fucking POLITE at indians games. that's the biggest problem.

give me 20,000 people that are a combination of regular guys both young and old, fathers and sons, and those chicks that are really into the team because they think all the players are hot. don't give me 20,000 corporate types that are there to mingle and relax (not that there's anything wrong with that...i just hate when it feels like the MAJORITY).

i live in columbus, and will be going to my first game of the year tonight. i'll be sitting in the bleachers, which i'm hoping will be a sweet time.

the tribe is awesome. 18-7, 10-1, 7 in a row....they are HEATING UP MY FRIEND!!!!!

Actually, the Tribe was 100-44 in '95. In '94 we began showing the fruits of a blossoming farm system going 66-47 (trailing the Chisox by a game) before the strike began.

I like him as a broadcaster, he does a good game, and is enthusiastic. I just hate the all first name stuff. "Grounder to Omar, flips it to Robby, over to Jimmy, Double play!" what the fuck is that?

That doesnt bother me much.
He seems to call the players by the name most people refer the them as, i.e. Omar.

This team is definately getting me excited now! All I've been hearing this season is "What happened to the Tribe?". I talked a lot of trash this spring about this team. But now they're giving me some "I told you" ammo. Lets hope they can keep it up! Damn I wish they were coming to St. Louis.

Neither will I. I remember thinking how the sky was the limit with that lineup. I really thought we would get 2 maybe 3 titles out of them. It kills me that we never won 1. Stupid Jose Mesa.:mad1: :sad: :pissed:

First off, I think the term "Best Fans" is equivalent to the "# 1 Dad" T-Shirt of Seinfeld fame .. I don't really think those rankings are official.

But, on this thread, I've read one of those 'Best Fans' not know what a Pennant was, & another not know what year his team went 100-44. Even I know that, and I can throw in more Indians stats from that season off the top of my head .. and I hate the Indians.

Well, that's your opinion.

it was purely the Tribe finally becoming a great ball team. When they started winning in 1994 (the first year of The Jake, if I'm not mistaken), people couldn't get enough. The Tribe had the best record in baseball during the shortened 1995 season (100-44), even though the Browns were still there, and you couldn't get a ticket.

The "streak" lasted a lot longer than 1995, and the lack of a football team and a shitty hoops team helped keep the streak going. The fact is, Cleveland showed itself to be a bandwagon baseball city, as evidenced by their pathetic attendance this year. If the Browns ever get good again, "The Jake" will be the loneliest place on Earth.

There are a few diehard Tribe, Brown, Cavs fans out there, but the fact is (as much as it pains me to say it) most Cleveland fans are just jaded from a lack of success, unfullfilled expectations, etc.

A couple things to touch on here:

1. Ohio is a football state. Always has been, and always will be. Every other sport will ALWAYS be behind the Browns, Buckeyes, & Bengals. Always. Maybe Cincinnati is a slight exception in the State, because of their rich baseball history, the Reds, and their powerhouse HS baseball programs, but the rest of the state's passion will always be on the gridiron. Period. This is especially true in the Cleveland-Akron area, whether Indians fans like to admit it or not.

2. I really can't blame the Indians fans for not going all those years. The only thing you can really equate it to is the old Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFL. I mean, what are you cheering for, after awhile? The team was AWFUL for so long, they had horrible unis, and the Stadium was one-step away from condemnation. Are you going out en masse to support a team like that?

I remember watching the old AL East games (yes Indians fans, you used to PLAY in the AL East) between the Yanks & Indians .. and Cleveland Municipal looked on TV like a cross between a movie set from 'Mad Max', a garbage dump, and a funeral home.

It was so bad that the Producers of Major League chose old Milwaukee County Stadium over it for the filming of the movie!! And County Stadium was no gem, by any means ..

3. Knowing those two points, The only criticism I can make of the Indians fans is when they call other fans 'bandwagon,' and claim to be 'The Best Fans.' I mean, lets get real here ..

FYI: Football season is September thru December. Baseball season is April thru September. The Browns & Indians will be playing on the same day (maybe) four days over the course of your typical 365 day year.

How does one conflict with the other again??? Apple here, orange there ..

TRIVIA QUESTION: Baseball started divisional play in 1969. It expanded to 3 Divisions in each league in 1994. Over that span (1969 to 1993), every team finished ahead of every other team in their respective divisions at some point, except for one who never finished ahead of another until 1992, the second to last year of 4 Divisional play.

The first person to tell me the two teams gets props ..
