Indians Fans... Claim they are the best, but are they?

Bucky Katt: "Yankees (last night) and Indians"

CORRECT! No lead is safe when you got "Bern Baby Bern" in the line-up!

Piney: "Speaking of which, was that their first win against the Devil Rays this year?"

I think the Yanks're 3-5 against Tampa this year .. but don't quote me on that. I will tell you something: the Rays OWN Randy Johnson. I thought Eduardo Perez (son of Tony) was out of baseball seven years ago ..

Bucky Katt: "No lead is safe when you are the freakin Devil Rays. Hell, even the Reds swept them."

Have you seen Tampa's Triple A roster? They've got 3 of the top prospects in baseball, and a couple more Major League possibilities .. what're they waiting for? Bring the kids up! They have a TON of talent on the 40-man roster, especially when Baldelli comes back.

Carl Crawford is one of the best players in baseball. He runs like a cannon-shot, he can rake, he can get 'em in Left, he's got a great arm, and he's a gamer.

That Triple A roster sure isn't helping their bullpen right now. Their pitching, in general, blows goats.

It is horrible that RSN outnumbered the hometown crowd. But it doesn't surprise me, this is like their last chance tour cuz all Red Sox fans in the world know this is the last world series championship for another 86 years. So gotta live it any chance they got, eh?
Or it could be their loyalty and passion for their team.

I can't blame you for being jealous though.

Hey, you can't hurt the club by bringing up talent. Whether it addresses the sore spot on the big club or not.

Hey! That's my line!! We gotta get the jewelery back. And soon ...

That is why I put the  at the end, more just kidding with ya. I know the yanks beat them earlier in the year, but I did know they had a losing record due to Tampa sweeping them a month or so ago.

Jealous of winning the World Series yes... not jealous of what has happened afterwards. Seriously... Queer Eye? Fever Pitch? That deserves another curse right there.

Why does that surprise you? The Red Sox are the ultimate chick team this side of the WNBA .. look at how many moron, ultra-sensitive women celebrities jumped on that bandwagon over the years to play the sympathy card ..

This thread is kinda funny.

Indians fans are fine. As a matter of fact, they are probably a little better than most other fans. The reason I say this is because;

1.) There's really no reason that, when you consider the sucess the team had from the late 50's to the early 90's, cleveland should have even HAD a team come 94. You think putting 5000 or so people in a 80 year old stadium (NOT ballpark. Municipal stadium, as much as I love the place to death, was one of the worst places to watch a baseball game ever) to watch a team that hasn't been good in 40 years is easy? Sure you can do it in a place like wrigley that's one of the most history and tradition rich parks in the country, but doing it in a place like the muni is respectable.

2.) I distinctly remember crowds of 40-60k for opening day throughout the 80's when the team was at it's most putrid. Just because they couldn't sell out an 80,000 seat stadium for openers means nothing. (this was alluded to in a post on the first page, and when I read it I felt like it was a direct challange to my manhood.) So even though the crowds were pretty bad in august when the team was 30 games out, they still could put people in the stands on occassion.

3.) In fact, when they were closing down the muni before they opened the jake, they got 50k+ in the seats for every game of the series against the white sox, including a SELLOUT (That's 80 fucking thousand people) in the last game.

Don't try to tell me that cleveland fans are bandwagon fans. They went and supported a losing franchise for 40 years, and then ponied up for a new stadium while the local economy was going into the shitter. Sure we may not be the "best" fans in baseball but I'll stack baseball fans in the cleveland area up with fans from anywhere in the country in a heartbeat.

Really, i don't even think the crowds now are all that bad. It's been mentioned previously, but crowds now are more corporate ... the same way they are in every place with a newer stadium across the country. Now that schools out and summer is starting, look for better and better crowds as the tribe climbs up the standings.

If the indians are in the hunt come september, I promise you at least 30k every night.

Cmon tribe, win one tonight and avoid the sweep.

sorry if somebody already mentioned this earlier, but the city is dying. People are losing jobs left and right and it was just announced earlier this year that Cleveland was the poorest city in the country. And with baseball games being very expensive, I see why the crowds arent what they were.

Heck, I live 2 hours south, and have to spend close to 250 to go to 1 game with just 2 friends.

The Jake was sold out yesterday for the first time since opening day... The Indians responded with a 12-7 win which wasn't as close as the score indicated.

Love to see this!
I was at that game. The only reason it was sold out was because enough Cincinnati fans made the trip up I-71. There was at least 10,000 Cincy fans as they were pretty loud when Cincy was up early before that huge 8 run inning.

How do you spend $250 for 3 people? I went Saturday night with my woman and spent $60. Baseball tickets expensive??? What tickets do you want? Front row box behind the plate? Bleachers are $12 a person, with deals and such you can get tickets for under $10.

Hate to tell you but baseball is still the cheapest of all sports to attend.

Not to get off on a tangent, but I went to the game on sunday, and after hearing about the sellout on saturday night, bought 4 "$12" bleacher tickets on the internet for $76. Even if the indians are trying to make it affordable for regular fans to go, ticketmaster sure isn't. Those fees are even more aggravating when you are purchasing a cheaper ticket, because they pretty much end up doubling the cost of the damn things. From now on I'm scalping all baseball tickets I go to. The ticketmaster fees are tolerable on $50 browns tickets because you don't really notice them so much, but at least when you pay a "handling" fee to the guy on the street you can see the sweat on his face.

Baseball may be the cheapest of all sports to attend, but that doesn't mean it's cheap.
