Game Thread Indiana at tOSU, Sat. Nov. 23, 12pm ET, FOX

Here's the current results of Indiana's games so far this year:

Florida International (3-6)
Western Illinois (3-6) (FCS)
UCLA (3-5)
Charlotte (3-6)
Maryland (4-4)
Northwestern (4-5)
Nebraska (5-4)
Washington (5-4)
Michigan State (4-5)

They've played no one who is even close to being ranked, and they've only played two teams that currently have a winning record (both 5-4). The current records of their opponents come out to a 34-45 total overall, and the total points all they have combined in the AP poll is four (Washington).

They should beat scUM this weekend (and I surely hope they do), but they'll step foot into another dimension of football on Nov 23...
I posted in some other thread that I feel a lot better about this game than I did prior to their game against the cheaters. I'm still not optimistic. I guess I just don't get optimistic easily. But only beating them 20-15, when I thought they'd easily win by 20, shows me that a good defense can win the game. And *ichigan's crummy offense was able to score 15 (would be 16 if they had gone for 1 after their touchdown). If I had to bet, I'd take Ohio State -7 to -9.

Indiana got totally shut the fuck down in the second half...about 30 yards total (was negative yardage until the middle of the fourth quarter) and three points. They looked EXACTLY like the Indiana of old. I can see Ohio State winning by three TDs...

If they give Ohio State an effort equal to their worst half of football of the season, then Bucks by 3TD is a disappointment. Unless Ohio state puts forth an effort equal to the second half against Nebraska, in which case all bets are off

I think it’s probably true that the second half in Bloomington on Saturday was revealing. The problem is, I can’t say that I have a high level of confidence in that statement.

I would love to believe that Ohio State’s second half against Nebraska was just an aberration. But what would I say to an Indiana fan who said that it was revealing? I might bring up better performances against better defenses, but Indiana could make the same argument for their performance against the cheaters being an aberration. They haven’t played great teams, but Nebraska is ranked 34 places higher than the skunk bears in scoring defense nationally and 6 spaces higher in the B1G, and the Hoosiers hung a 50-burger on them.

Which game was the aberration? Did either game show who Indiana really is? If someone has a reason to be sure, please share. My usual optimism seems to have deserted me; I’d love to get it back.

I can’t give you your optimism but I can confirm your skepticism lol

I think Indiana last week got punched back for once and they weren’t really sure how to handle it. However, they did handle it and they won. I’d love to say that they haven’t played anyone etc but they’ve been destroying these teams that’s my concern.

I do not expect us to shut them down and to treat them like the IU of old. I expect a close game and a game where our CBs likely struggle in coverage down the field (they’re tremendous at back shoulder stuff) and also struggle with penalties. I think we should win but if we don’t play a clean game we can absolutely lose this game. If they make plays to win the game that’d suck but it wouldn’t suck as much as us having turnovers, boat loads of penalties, missed assignments and missed opportunities.

This isn’t a matchup up game though. If we play a game with no turnovers and cause turnovers we could have a nice surprise of an easy top 5 win.

The motivation for both teams are different as well. For Indiana they want to prove they belong and they’re not a fluke. For Ohio State, they know the big ten championship is off the table if they lose anymore games this regular season.

I think we’ll win but I expect Indiana to really make this a hard fought win. Something like 31-27 is my guess but hopefully I’m wrong with my impression of IU.

The following post comes from someone who coached track, mostly high jumpers and pole vaulters, for thirty years and therefore is uniquely suited to explain what is happening in any college football game:
1. The Buckeyes are one knee injury from a disastrous end to this season.
2. Oregon’s defense plays right to the edge of dirty.
3. The playoff system is rigged to favor commerce in the sunbelt.
4. the 1968 Rose Bowl game between Indiana and USC saw the SC students unfurl a banner in the fourth quarter that read, “Cinderella Just Got Fucked!”
Amen.

Ohio State Will End Its Regular Season With Six Straight Noon Games

Ohio State football players put an end to Big Noon Blowup

When it was announced Ohio State’s game with Indiana on November 23rd would be yet another early start, their fifth in a row, Buckeye fans had a complete meltdown.

When it was announced Ohio State’s game with Indiana on November 23rd would be yet another early start, their fifth in a row, Buckeye fans had a complete meltdown. Let's call it the Big Noon Blowup. There was so much caterwauling you’d have thought Ryan Day decided to punt on first-and-goal from the Michigan 1-yard line when the Buckeyes were about to score the game-winning touchdown.

To say Scarlet and Gray faithful who attend games were unhappy about their pregame drinking time being drastically cut is a gross understatement. You could almost hear the screams of anguish.

But, had anyone thought of asking the players their opinion? Because, you know, their opinion is kind of important. During their media session on Wednesday, the players were asked to weigh in. This is what wide receiver Carnell Tate had to say,

"We love it. We like to play noon games. We like to wake up and go straight to the field and play. The earlier the game is, the more time you've got on the back end of your day. "
- Carnell Tate
Not exactly the answer tailgating Buckeye fans want to hear. Jelani Thurman, Sonny Styles, and Will Howard echoed Tate’s opinion. Howard said, “There's something I kind of like about just getting up and going. There's less thinking involved. Sitting in the hotel, for me, I just get antsy.” Hey folks, do we really want our favorite team’s starting quarterback getting antsy?

The only opinions that matter on this subject are those of the players. If they are fine with the early kickoffs, then those howling OSU fans need to be fine with it as well. The most important thing to me is the Buckeyes winning each week.

If players feel start times for games is affecting their performance, then I’d be screaming as well. But that isn’t the case. Whether it is liked or not, it is time for fans to stop complaining and put an end to the Big Noon Blowup.

Wait

We had a “complete meltdown” over the kickoff times?

You guys had a meltdown and nobody told me?
