A lot of the same things we saw in the last couple games last year and first couple games this year continue to be a problem. I’m not seeing any improvement over what we’ve seen in the last few weeks to think they are trending in any direction.

That being said, I have nothing bad to say about the offense. I could nitpick over the running game, but we’ve been clamoring for the offense to just throw the ball if that’s what they're good at and that‘s what they did. And they did it very well. 8 drives for 6 touchdowns. That’s going to be difficult for almost any other team to match. If the defense can start making just a few more plays, this team can be very dangerous.

There's criticism and then there's bashing. The main game thread had both.

I think my criticism of the OSU-based media is spot on though. 97.1 just rage baits people. It's the model the TV news media has been using forever. It leads to unreasonable expectations of perfection. I've never met someone who is perfect, especially when they were in college.

I think there's a LOT of improvements to and scheme adjustments that need to be made but I'm some fat idiot sitting on his couch. I'm not in the room but I can't imagine the coaches who know a lot more than all of us combined are ok with what we're all seeing. I saw a few things that make me question exactly what the scheme really is even - because it seemed like there was no set base defensive formation.

6 TD drives: 75, 93, 87, 67, 80, 43 yard drives.
518 total yards
Julian and Jeremiah were on fire today
75% completion percentage
8 for 12 on 3rd downs. Better but not good. 67 %
2 for 2 on 4th down
151 rushing yards at 4.7 per carry. Both Jackson's ran hard
Julian got a TD and a few first downs running the ball. Happy about this.
Can't recall us giving up a sack
Not happy with the D

Tough crowd. Coaches would kill to go 8/12 on 3rd down. If McCuin catches a ball that hit him in the hands, it’s 7/11 because that next 3rd down doesn’t happen.

Yeah being 2/3 for third down would lead the country by a mile.

Offense did great all day.

What I liked was they varied their approach. They went run heavy for an 8 minute drive and then sped up for a couple 90 second drives too. Then Julian with his legs was a whole new level of good to see.

I won’t even go over the defense. It’s good to get a win!

Also the first question to Ryan was about why the defense sucked and he pointed out that he knew the first question would be negative even though the offense was the highlight of the day

Yes, but honestly the D was probably the first question in his mind, and as HC, it should be moving forward.

Random thoughts;

I never thought the defense would lose three top 10 guys in the draft and stay at the same level so not disappointed but it’s clear they have a long way to go. They scare me.

Much like Sayin, they are going to get attacked and they will either get better, or implode.

Bert and his staff are good coaches so they just added to the growth through the stress (hopefully)

3rd and 4th downs (defense)…. JFC

Last year spoiled me
IMO the DL and the LBs just don't have the foot speed of the elite we lost
so they have to function much more in sync to make up for it
Significant miscommunication between the whole defense but when you lose what we did gonna take time
but I hope something miraculous happens before we enter the skid rows of the remaining schedule

While last year’s D had outright freaks, even for OSU, it’s hard to know if this year’s edition is really lacking footspeed or are just playing slow because they’re inexperienced. I tend to assume that we have the athletes, if perhaps not freaks, but they’ve got to start playing decisively and downhill.
