This?
If we have to worry about QBs piling on rushing yards, then we'd really be in trouble. PJ Hill is a big worry. Mike Hart. Whoever Penn State's got. We are going to run into a couple of physical teams in the big ten in the latter part of the season. I get the sense that our defense will be fine against teams that have to go to the pass. It's when we go up against a Barry Alveraz-like team that will put the game on the line based on their ability to run it up our throat that we will really know what we are made out of. Quite frankly, since the NIU game of last year, we haven't show that we can shut down a team that is determined to run it up our throat.
Garrett Wolfe ran up 171 yards against us.
Selvin Young had 94 yards on 11 carries, and Texas was slashing the running lanes at will at times before Smith put the game away.
Tony Hunt's 134 yard effort kept PSU in the game until late INTs put it away.
Iowa with Young and particularly Sims did a good job slashing open the running lanes before Smith put the game away.
Our defense then went on a tear against the likes of Illinois, Northwestern, Bowling Green, Minnesota, Michigan State and Indiana, but then the last two games...
142 yards to Mike Hart (and that's with Michigan playing big time catch-up most of the game) and then Florida.
Basically our run defense dominated against the really crappy teams, and were bailed out by Troy Smith against the mediocre to good teams when the scoreboard dictated that the other teams had to score quickly to keep up. This year, forget about it. If you are Iowa, if you are PSU, if you are Wisconsin, if you are Michigan, if you are Purdue, you look at Ohio State and you don't see the name Troy Smith on the roster, you are just going to keep on running the ball until Ohio State proves that it can close the lanes. That's what we gotta be worried about.
