If defensive staff changes are coming, who should OSU be looking to hire?

I think this is all wild speculation, though. The more I think about it, unless a HC opportunity comes along, I doubt Fickell is going anywhere. Same with Withers. There is a talent deficiency right now. I'd be willing to bet Urban gives them one more year to get some of these younger guys playing at a respectable level.
but the thing is is really not all wild speculation because Luke might get the HC at BG but I guess that is all wild speculation also.

I'll throw out a name - Mark Snyder. Native of Ironton, Ohio, played at Marshall, assistant at Ohio State, and DC after Dantonio. Went back to Marshall as HC, but it didn't go well. He bounced around and most recently landed at Texas A & M as DC. Their D was pretty good last year, but they lost a bunch of guys and they struggled this year. I always liked Mark. I believe his family is still in Ohio, so I bet he would like to come home.

You know how people are hoping other schools will hire certain Ohio State assistants as their head coaches to take them off our hands? It was rumored that's how Mark Snyder got to Marshall. Supposedly he had inadequacies as a recruiter.

Plus the year he was the DC at OSU many of us felt strangely similar about that defense as we do now.

True (that was before I was here though, but the games I got to watch in Iraq I wondered what the hell had happened)....a lot of that defense seemed to grow up throughout the year, but it seemed like the players didn't trust the scheme or whatever.

At this point, I think tOSU is in a good enough position financially and prestige wise to attract a top tier guy, we really don't need to go the retread route IMO. Bud Foster,Pelini both of whom are easily attainable. Also just to flex our muscles, I would throw Greg Mattison 3.5 mil plus incentives to come to tOSU.

1st Bold - Aint Happening Foster isn't leaving Va Tech.
2nd Bold - You wanna pay the man who's in his late 60s almost as much as the head coach ... No thanks, I'd rather give Heacock 1 to 1.5.

While I know we have the money, we aren't paying our OCs & DCs stupid money like other teams. if you have a sole OC & DC then yeah they should probably get a little over a $1 M.
