If defensive staff changes are coming, who should OSU be looking to hire?

Timing would have been good if Pelini or Hoke had been canned.

Bo was a top notch DC, even if his Nebraska defenses didn't show it. His bro stepped back down to Oklahoma's DC so why not Pelini?

Greg Mattison was Urban's #1 last time around (I have to believe).

If you want to be the best, steal the best. Go down to Alabama or LSU and grab a position coach. FSU raided Bama for DB coach Jeremy Pruitt for this season as DC and they are #2 in points allowed.

I don't think you steal a DC from another school from a major conference that's worth a damn, because they are holding out for HC jobs, or happy where they are.

My guess is that Withers goes elsewhere and nothing else changes for another season.

If we're poaching pro coaches, my list begins and ends with Dick LeBeau.

Thought about specifically naming him in the thread starting post as an example of someone unattainable.

FWIW, I favor young up and comers in general, but I don't know enough about football or follow coaching enough to know who those people might be. Would love to hear one of the posters who's a coach weigh in.

How many assistants can you have in college? I mean guys that are involved and allowed to do the full range of activities... not like the offensive QC coach etc

I would not mind leaving Luke to be the sole DC as long as Heacock is advising (if we can't get Heacock back as DC) and bringing in a real DB coach. Ideal scenario to me is Fickell and Vrable just coach their positions, Combs does ST and recruiting, Withers leaves for FAU, we get a DB coach that knows what he is doing, and we bring in either Heacock or a big name for DC.

Someone suggested to me Teryl Austin with the Ravens because Urban hired him once while at Florida as defensive coordinator.

I doubt he leaves Baltimore for an assistant job in college.

Same person suggested Mark Carrier. The answer is probably the same there too (won't leave NFL for college).

Throw money at Tanuta. He can sure coach up DBs.

Also, I take no joy in wanting to see any coaches replaced. But, especially in the DB area, no real progress and quite the opposite, possibly regressing as far as quality of play at the DB posts leaves me concerned that staying the course will get more of the same results. Also, I think losing Withers may affect us some in recruiting areas he is familiar with, but something has to be done in my opinion.
