I don't give a darn about your indie bands

Personally I listen to tons of indie music.. Is it because it's "cool"? No, it's because I think some of it is amazing music. Stuff like Sufjan Stevens (is he indie?), Arcade Fire, Passion Pit, New Pornographers, are all great music in my opinion. You may very well completely disagree and that is totally cool.

Most people (I think?) don't listen to indie music because it's "cool" (or because it's not cool, and therefore is actually cool, right?). Most people listen to music that they like. I can't really imagine listening to music you didn't like just because it was cool.

That being said, I completely admit that there are many indie fans (like the one mentioned in the OP) that have this superiority complex of, "Oh, you poor soul, the only music you listen to is radio music! Here, let me enlighten you". But that's no different than any other group of fans of music. People are idiots and think that their opinions are better than others, and that will probably always be the case.

I think a lot of hipster/indie types get a rap as music snobs b/c they only like "indie" type bands, or can't admit to really liking AC/DC or Tim McGraw or Bone Thugs in a "non-ironic" way. Some people truly have wide ranging music tastes, others live in their own musical ghetto whether it be Top 40 pop, death metal, classical,whatever. To each their own.

Looks like a fun party though, Jay Z and Tiesto are well worth it, but I don't know about 3 days of 80% of that music.

I don't care to get into the argument and I don't care what other people like. All I know is that I like tons of music, but most of it happens to be indie music. Here are some great bands if you like less mainstream, "hipster" music. I would never snub Metallica just because they're legendary status just as I wouldn't Passion Pit because they're artsy or whatever.

Pitchfork: The Black Keys Announce New Album

Between their hip-hop collaboration with Damon Dash, BlakRoc, Dan Auerbach's solo album, and Patrick Carney's Drummer project, it sure seemed like the two men of the Black Keys were putting their main band on hold for the time being. Well, they aren't. On May 18, Nonesuch will release Brothers, the sixth Black Keys album.
Mostly recorded at the famed Muscle Shoals studios in Alabama and mostly produced by Auerbach and Carney themselves, Brothers features one song ("Tighten Up") produced by Danger Mouse, who helmed the last Black Keys album, Attack and Release.
The Black Keys plan to tour this summer, though only a few dates have been announced so far, including performances as Bonnaroo and Central Park Summerstage.
