I don't give a darn about your indie bands

Wilco released a surprise new album last night. It only costs FREE dollars and you can download it from their website if you give them your email address:

It's called Star Wars, so I imagine a lawyer somewhere got a call from George Lucas last night.

I'm almost to the end of my first time through the album. I think it's pretty good. Maybe the most interesting thing they've released in a decade. The songs are tighter, built around specific ideas, and don't overstay their welcome. I'm eager to see if they give this a physical release.

EDIT: Serious White Album / Abbey Road vibes from this Wilco album. I've been anxiously awaiting the new Tame Impala that just came out today, but I haven't touched it yet because I can't stop listening to Wilco. Also, physical releases are planned... August 13 for the CD, November for vinyl.

Meh... They've done nothing of interest since AM.

I'm sure that their catalog has contained a lot of good stuff but it's largely been lost on me.

Wussy - Attica!

Out today, and it's rock-solid. Wussy are one of those bands that really never put out a bad song. The B-side of this disc is particularly good.

Nearly ten years in, and they finally got a review in Pitchfork. Congrats to them for that. They're playing a free show on Fountain Square in a few weeks - I'm really looking forward to it.

Frontier Folk Nebraska (not folk, not from Nebraska) has been the "artist in residence" on Thursday nights this month at the Crow's Nest. They have been doing acoustic sets to this point but told me this week will be the full band for their final show of the run. The Crow's Nest stuff isn't very well publicized, so I was the audience for a few tunes last week.. I think the crowd peaked at 5. They are gearing up for their live album taping - 2 NIGHT EVENT @ Southgate House Revival
AUGUST 7th & 8th w/ The Mitchells and Wussy. No cover at the Crow's Nest on Thursday the 30th. Small crowd, cheap drinks, should be a great time.

The Crow's Nest is actually good place to see some solid bands but nobody really seems to have noticed. I've been going quite a bit this summer since it's a 10 minute walk from my house. Biggest crowd I've seen was about 15 people and most of them were friends of the band. Good mix of local talent and up and coming bands from out of town. Mostly alt country, bluegrass, folk, Americana, etc. Always free.

I've heard good things about FFN, just haven't got around to checking them out yet.

I plan on going to see Wussy when they play their free show on Fountain Square in about a month.

Also, saw that Ass Ponys are reuniting for a couple shows this fall. I plan to go to one of those as well.
