Jesus! I'll give her some improper benefits.

Improper benefits are one thing. Disgusting "benefits" are another thing entirely. :shake:

Obviously no.

However, in my opinion, firing Coach Tressel and hiring someone that better represents The Ohio State University would be impossible.

I agree. Unfortunately that is the only action that will satisfy some people and at this point it really doesn't matter what the NCAA says or doesn't say.

We'll just have to live with whatever we get I'm afraid - let's hope either JT can stay in some capacity OR we don't hit a Ntre Ame/scUM like downtrend.

You know, taking nothing away from the man and his success and the indelible stamp he has made at tOSU, from personal experience those type of predictions do not have to be fulfilled, as crazy as it may sound to you now. I was standing in line at the Miami airport in January of 2002, after the Orange Bowl, where the Gators had plunger raped the Maryland Turtles. Rex and the Gator offense had set a bunch of Orange Bowl records. The 'Ole Ball Coach, a Heisman winner and coaching legend, was on our sideline and all was good. Hell, SOS was even an alumnus.

Seeing my gear, a guy walking by said to me, "How about Spurrier quitting - what will you do now? My God, my stomach started to get in knots. I could NEVER imagine anyone else as coach, it was not possible. After so long, we had a coach that had a string of victories over our arch rivals in our most important game of the year that made my life an extended high - always feeling the drug of what it was like to beat the Leg Humping Poodles. How could a new coach ever maintain that?

A Zooker burp notwithstanding, we then found a coach that brought us two National Championships, a Heisman winner, and two of the most enjoyable Mutt beat downs in the history of Poodle thrashing in just six years. The win the year after the Celebration Anomaly was one of the most enjoyable things ever experienced - Urban called it in advance in a book, let them know it was coming, and then delivered it.

I could not imagine us winning two more BCSNCs by 2008 - way back in 2002 while standing in line with my guts torn out. It turned out that the program was stronger than the coach - Legend though he was. If Tress has to be replaced, you will likely find a man who is burning to be your new coach, who respects your traditions, who "gets it", who will keep your grad rates and academics high, and who will keep young men out of trouble and be an example to them as he molds them into better men.

Just because you think it unfathomable now, and your heart says it is not possible to replace a legend, it does not follow that the program will decline. And I can say that from my own life experience, not from mere speculation.

No one here is worried the program will fade away. Fuck, it hasn't in over a hundred years, so yeah.

What we are worried about is that another Coop will be brought in. A coach that doesn't "get" Ohio, or The Game, or "winning with people".

I get what you're saying Gator, but your fears about our fears are unfounded. What most are afraid of is the next coach...who won't be hired by Andy Geiger...will be a fuckin' outsider. When other schools want a coach that wins and "gets it", they hire an Ohioan. For some reason, at a point in our history, we hired a dude from Tennessee. So you'll forgive us our nervousness.

I think you should give that some consideration and adjust your tone accordingly.

I remember people (OSU fans) predicting the demise of the program because we'd never get a coach as good as Cooper again. Seriously.

Actually a lot of the arguments we have on here today sound just like the early BSB/original bucknuts board stuff in the late 90's if you switch out some names.

I know Geiger isn't going to handle this coaching search but the "only an Ohioan" thing can be dangerously overdone as well. There are plenty of fucktards from Ohio (none on this site of course).

Any coach that understands The Game or at least big time college rivalry games will be fine imo (no offense to our Pac 10 friends but ASU vs UA doesn't count). BTW, anyone who looked could have seen Coop had a history of spitting the bit in rivalry games at ASU as well. He got the job because scUM's Bowl suck overpowered Coops Bowl suck in the Rose Bowl and somebody had to win.

Anyway, I'm with you the program will be fine but I'm not married to the insider/outsider thing. Just give me a great coach who gets rivalry's please. I'd prefer some OSU lineage if possible but I wouldn't disqualify a great candidate because he lacked it.

I'm not nearly as concerned with OSU lineage as I am Ohio lineage. I don't want a coach born or raised outside this state. The longer he spent here, the better.

I don't know what Geiger really has to do with anything, but Gee is still here, and he was John Cooper's biggest fan, so...

Gee's hands were pretty much tied regarding Cooper. After the dismal manner in which Earl was whacked and the subsequent backlash (both local and national) any coach who won a respective amount and ran a clean program was NOT going to get fired. Cooper received a very long rope because of how Bruce was fired.

All of that is true...but when I was there I remember Gee being publicly effusive with praise for Cooper, sometimes even overly so.
