I do however think the motivation to keep kids eligible was higher on his list than other people do but that's one no one is ever going to know for sure.
Also, I think the "other stuff" that probably will surface out of this is the same kind of "other stuff" that goes on at any big school and the kind of shit that only comes up if you give someone a reason to look.
"I'm not all in" means I don't think Tressel, or anyone else, is as good as he was made out to be and that I damn sure don't buy some of the stuff people were cooking up to try and rationalize this all away but if my son were old/good enough to play for Tressel there is no other major CFB coach I would rather have him play for.
Anytime I've gotten over the top its more out of my strong distaste for what I perceive as groupthink/rationalization/hero worship/willful blindness type of stuff.
I know its getting too heavy for a sports forum, no one was passing out the Koolaid, but as a kid of the 70's my family was HUGE on never letting yourself get caught up in a Jonestown kind of thing and its made me be overly sensitive to any kind of organized religion or scenario where people say "I support X no matter what". It's usually not person X that scares me, its people willing to buy anything X is selling, I just find that enormously uncomfortable-even in a setting as ultimately meaningless as CFB.
Anyway, my .02 and attempt at extending the olive branch to anyone I've gotten pissy with. I'm not going back on anything I've said but I just want to let people know why. My name is Jaxbuck and I have been sober for 2 da....err I have a severe cult of personality phobia. Hopefully I don't end up hugging some dude with a set of bitch tits now.

I think turning our backs on him is caving to public perception and group thinking....If the "more comes out" shit actually happens and it shows that he and James Trafficant ran a prostitution ring to attract recruits and they ran a sports book then shame on me

Didn't the NCAA give tOSU a full fuckin' colonoscopy after MoC? I seem to remember them being on campus for quite a fucking while. If they didn't find anything then, then your assumption that there's dirt to hide could be wrong.Jaxbuck;1923595; said:I think the "more comes out" stuff is part and parcel with what has to go on at this level to be honest. There is no doubt in my mind every major CFB program has a dealer or two willing to give players a deal on a car, tattoo parlors, $100 handshakes etc etc etc.
IMO these "systems" pop up, keep the HC and athletic department sufficiently insulated but are there for anyone who really wants to look. Tressel's problem is he did indeed give them a reason to look. Its like small business owners and the IRS, everyone takes liberties with the assumption they won't get caught but if/when the IRS comes calling its just time to face up to the fact you are fucked and get the best deal you can.
I think JT's ego jumped up and kept him from just throwing himself on the mercy of the auditors as it were, that action will encourage a full colonoscopy instead of a turn your head and cough which will inevitably result in finding something because there are more than likely many "somethings" to be found.
The distinction I'll make is I'm not saying, everyone else does it so its ok. I'm saying I think almost everyone does it to some degree or another but if you screw up and get caught then face the music like a man. Don't try and lie, cover it up or make excuses. I have always tried the formula of saying "I have no excuse but fwiw here are the reasons why I did what I did...blah blah blah....That said, I'll take whatever punishment you see fit to give now because I know I broke the rules." Believe me, I've fucked up enough to know what I'm talking about here and this works like a champ, they have zero reason to be pissed as they punish you which makes a HUGE difference.
Again, all my opinion, hopefully I'm wrong but IF "more stuff" sticks then he has to go, not because he's a bad person but just because the school can't have it hanging over the program. With the way its been handled to this point, even if it stops right here I wonder if he'll make it.

My memory is really bad and my intelligence is worse, but my lingering feeling after the MoC thing was finally behind us was thank god MoC didn't tell the NCAA what he was so willing to tell BSPN.Didn't the NCAA give tOSU a full fuckin' colonoscopy after MoC?
