I can't believe you lived in that smell...or that you go back.

Well, I left in 86, it was much better back then (or I was too young to know). 95% of my relatives live in South Zanesville/Perry county, so I find myself there every 2-3 years. When I do go back, I'm either at someone's house or I'm fishing at Senecaville. I steer clear of Zanesville itself.

What's so stinky about Zanesville?

I grew up in Fremont, NE. On the south side of town is the Hormel plant, that now makes Spam. It stinks like you wouldn't believe, giving rise to Fremont's title of "The Armpit of Nebraska."

I did 18 years in that god-forsaken town. Moved out on my 18th birthday.

From my perspective, it isn't that malodorous, just an economically depressed town in the meth belt. I think most industry left the area in the 80s/90s.

The air is much cleaner here in NH, though. I just came in from my backyard, and I'm pretty sure I'll have a great crop of blueberries again this summer. I stopped after 6 gallons last August. Any BPers that want, feel free to stop by in about three weeks...

Ok, when you can successfully bake a tray of cookies on the dash of your car, you know that its too damn hot out!

Yes, for one of the local radio stations (in my building, no less) the morning show hosts stuck a tray of cookies on one of their dashboards at 10am. By 5pm they were acceptably cooked! I would not be surprised if they try an egg tomorrow.

I'm not sure what I like better, the 96 degree temperature, the 61% humidity, or the intermittent power outages. When I retire, I'm not going to Florida. I'm going north.

I've heard that paper mills stink. Never smelled one. Rendering and meat processing I'm familiar with, as well as dog-chow plants. We don't make paper in Nebraska.

Grain elevators actually smell kind of wholesome, kinda like smelling nutty roasted cereal all day (go figure).

Yes, the smell of paper mills is nasty. The first time I smelled one (somewhere in PA), I had no idea what it was until I asked someone. And it will stink up an entire town. Fucking God awful. Literally smells like they're manufacturing vomit...

It was 78 degrees when I left the house this morning at 6:30, but it's been so hot here that 78 felt cool. Supposed to be around 98 again today, triple-digits again tomorrow, and maybe another upper-90s day on Sunday before calming down a little for next week.

We get heat waves here every year, usually two or three times a summer. This year we've had sustained high heat, and that's very unusual. It's just miserable.

I grew up about 10 miles away from a steel mill as a kid. All of the signage there was orange. My relatives who worked there had "work cars" that were permanently orange-stained beaters - they left their good cars at home. The smell? Pretty much just sulphur. I couldn't imagine what it was like to live there and smell that all the time. :sick1:

The people.

As bad as Zanesville smells, it has nothing on the paper mill in Chillicothe. Holy shit. I had never puked out of my nostrils before. I surely didn't expect it to smell better after I did.

The meade smell would be a nice surprise to people looking at property around that area that weren't aware.

btw........
