How do you stop TTech?

A disruptive defensive line would be the key. I don't think they have faced that this season. That is what USC has, as well as some of the SEC squads have. Opponents are forced to blitz, giving Harrell a quick hitter, so they pull back......and then Harrell has a long time to carve them up. If a defensive tackle or end was in his face all night, the defenders suddenly begin to look bigger. A strong push upfront will be the best way to take them out.

I'm not buying the "get pressure on Harrell" line. It doesn't seem like that's possible.
Maybe it's not, but it's still a requirement. Last two teams to come within single digits of beating them (Texas and UVA) sacked Harrell 6 times between them. TT has given up three sacks in the other 9 games.

SC's defense, which is very strong up the middle, is designed to kill offenses like this.
I gotta say, Tech vs USC is one bowl matchup I would like to see this year. I dont think it will happen because if Tech loses they are probably out of the BCS bowl picture (assuming OU and Texas win out) or if Tech wins out they will be playing a team from God's conference.

When/if Tech loses, I'm willing to bet that it'll be the game that Harrell receives the most pressure and makes more mistakes.

Doesn't mean there have to be a lot of mistakes. But the defense is going to have to capitalize, and so is the offense. Oklahoma, Florida, and USC are the only teams that I've actually watched who could do it, honestly. Oklahoma's secondary is pretty weak though.

Look at it this way.. do you think anyone is going to beat Tech if Harrell continues to have as much time as he does right now? Even if you press the WRs, they're going to get open eventually. Especially Crabtree. That guy is fucking unbelievable.

I don't see much blitzing against them. Okie State and Texas have both tried with their front 4. Again, blitzing is generally a bad idea against a team with quick throws and an offense designed to pick you apart pre-snap. You can't really bring a blitz that has a legit shot of getting to the QB without giving away the blitz pre-snap. They spread you out that much..it's obvious if you're coming with pressure.

i guess it i spick you rpoison b/c you don't bring pressure, and with their wide-ass splits, defensive ends can;t get a good rush. And Harrell isn;t lead footed, he has decent mobility so pressure up the middle generally leaves him time to navigate the pocket and find someone open.

You have to, from the very beginning, knock the holy daylights out of their receivers and make open field tackles. No yards allowed after the catch. The defense has to be aggressive, but not to the point of over-running plays. Hopefully, by mid-third quarter their receivers have gator arms (no offense, GUB) and don't want the ball thrown to them.

My thinking is, first you need to watch lots of film and get a good feel for tendacies in where they are completing passes...For example are they hitting outs, slants, stops, fades, posts, etc. and what down and distance and how many step drops etc...

Then you need to try and blitz gaps to where you effect the passing lanes...If you think they are looking to hit outs, bring a guy off the outside, and not necessairly to get to Harrel, but to get his hands up and disrupt the throwing lane...Play the corners to this as well...If you blitz say a LB in the 7 hole and you think an out is coming say the throwing lane would be forced to the 9 hole, then have you corner play that instead of the 7...

If you play zone, wherever the open spots are in the zone try and disrupt those passing lanes...

I also think you mix up zone and man...Play man on one side and zone on the other, disguise who is covering who, run zone blitzes dropping the DE into open spaces...

You are going to need a D-line and a good backer that could stop the run when they do run, and also a top flight corner to man up on Crabtree all night long...

I think we would have a good D to stop them...

We have Malcolm on crabtree, and JL in the middle to cover and play the run...D-line isn't great, but they can hopefully get some pressure and stay in lanes and get their hands up...

Then we have safeties that can cover and guys like Hines, Rolle, Moeller that are the small quick linebackers...

I know this is the craziest thing you might ever hear, and would never happen, but I would think about putting Pryor in for a couple plays just to try and disrupt things coming from a DE...At 6'6'' he is a guy that could get his hands up, and use his 4.5 speed to get after the QB...Never gonna happen, but that is the type of DE I think you need to get after the QB...

You beat them by not missing tackles at the three yard line with 4 seconds left in the game.

Oklahoma does not beat Tech next week. They gave up 27 points in the first half last year and the Tech
offense is better this year.

probably by scoring more than they do :p

I would say having a strong and consistent running game (which they haven't really faced yet) would be a key to keeping their offense off of the field.
.
I totally agree with you. I don't think you can't stop that offense at the college level unless you control the ball. In a way, they remind me of New England and I am trying to remember how the Colts stopped New England last year but then you're talking about entirely different athletes.

I don't think getting physical with their WRs would do anything. First, you'd have to have 3-4 DB's who it have to be pretty good because they have 3-4 pretty good WRs.

It will be interesting to see one Oklahoma tries next week. Maybe they are one of the teams that can control the ball because they have more weapons than Texas who I thought might be able to control the clock some.

Your not gonna get to him so instruct your D line to get in his passing lanes and make him try longer passes which gives your DBs more time to react. Tackle in space. No yac. And maybe you take a late shot at him to shake him up.
