How do you stop TTech?

Deadline passes for Mike Leach on new Texas Tech contract - ESPN

Just let them stop themselves. The regents have called a meeting friday about Leach and could possibly fire him if he doesn't sign a 5-year extension. He has two years left on his current deal and both sides are in agreement about the $$/year, but are hung up on other issues. According to Leach, Tech wants the following:

- Only 12% of contract is guaranteed if Leach is fired
- Buyout increases from $500k to $1.5M
- Leach would need permission from Ttech to speak to any other school
- School receives all of Leach's personal speaking fees

I would think that this presents the regents in a light that would not show well for possible replacements IF it gets that far. I'm not 'in-the-know', but it sure seems like Leach is getting screwed in this situation.

Leach has agreed to a new deal. It doesn't have a buyout, and he just needs to provide written notice in advance of talking to another school about a coaching job. We'll see how long he stays in Lubbock.

Leach, Texas Tech agree on new deal after months of negotiations

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) -- Texas Tech and coach Mike Leach agreed Thursday on a new contract after months of contentious negotiations.

Leach signed the contract shortly after he and Kent Hance, the university's chancellor, met for about two hours Thursday afternoon to hammer out an agreement. Hance said the negotiating part lasted only about 15 minutes.

"Me and my family are thrilled to death that we're going to be in Lubbock for another five years," Leach said at an evening news conference. "I appreciate Chancellor Hance and Gerald (Myers') efforts to allow us to
stay here and the opportunity to be here to coach the Red Raiders for many years to come."

Weeks ago, Leach and Tech essentially settled on the financial terms of a five-year, $12.7 million deal. But Leach took issue with several clauses the school added when the sides were trading proposals. The provision that bothered Leach the most would have triggered his firing and a $1.5 million penalty if he interviewed for another job without getting permission from Myers, the athletic director. Leach's existing contract had no such restriction.

I wonder if one of those new clauses TT put in the contract at the end were that they needed to run more than 8 plays and Leach wasn't happy about that. I'd be surprised if he lasted there the next 3 years.

Based on what? He's had one of the most potent offenses in CFB the last 4-5 years. It's obvious that he can recruit to fit his system.
