Just for the record:

When Taylor Mays hits a guy and he goes flying out of bounds, it doesn't matter when Mays hit him, it's a late hit.

The Buckeyes have been victimized by a few of those types of calls over the years. The thing that bothers me is that with the hair trigger some refs have on those calls, it can make some defenders tentative near the sideline, and a good player can make you pay for that. You could get a guy like Reggie Bush or Ted Ginn near the sideline and pull up a bit because you don't want the flag for the late hit. When that happens, they cut it back in and around and go the rest of the way up the sideline for big yards or a score. Both our teams have been on the advantageous side of that one too. My feeling is that it's football - let them play, and let them make the hit. Alot of those hit near the sideline are no more dangerous than the ones that take place between the hashes that are a part of every play.

Because some turf moved (although that seemed to clearly be from the receiver's hands), I wasn't going nuts about them calling it inconclusive.

From the receiver's hands? Was he carrying it? Did it fall out of his sleeve? :tongue2:

I think the most definitive evidence of it having hit the ground was the fact that the members ESPN's three man booth were unanimous in their determination that it didn't hit the ground. Sometimes I think you could actually improve instant replay by getting rid of the video and just give the ref a feed of the TV commentary. Find out what Craig James and Jesse Palmer say happened, then make the opposite call.

Yeah, that LSU/Bama game was full of crappy calls.

It's funny, the SEC refs suck, get called out for possible conspiracy in favors of UF and Alabama, yet continue to suck and fuel the fire of the conspiracy.

media backlash is growing now.
yeah they took some flack for the celebration calls in LSU/UGA game. Then again in UF/Arky game. Made national news again in UF/Miss St game, and Bama/Tennessee game.

But now, SI, Sporting News, Yahoo, ESPN Around the Horn and PTI are all covering this one. Hope the snowball continues to grow.

calling a questionable penalty is one thing, but just ignoring visual evidence is pretty blatant looking.

Nutri, you watch SEC ball more consistently than I do. As a casual viewer, it seems like the fishy calls seem to favor the favored team at an alarming rate. Is that your experience?

yep. been that way for years. just seems to be getting worse now than usual.

and they seldom seem to pop up in games like Kentucky vs Vandy.
or if they do, it always appears to be just your random blown call that can happen in any game.

but when one of the bread winers of the conference is playing, the number of potentially game changing calls that are at least questionable, seems to skyrocket.

and almost always seem to go in favor of the team with the best shot at finishing the season atop the polls.

It is remarkable to me that in today's day and age - especially with fan sites posting pics like you've got, raising awareness - that any officials would even try to "fix" a game. But, if what you're saying is true (and I believe you, like Jwins, every big SEC game I watch it seems like the favorite gets all the bad calls) the SEC front office better start making some heads roll. It won't take too long before people in the media come to the conclusion that the SEC is fixed and vote em lower as a result.

*somewhat long winded post upcoming, apologize in advance*

SEC officiating has never been great in my lifetime.

But for the most part, it was usually more along the lines of all the close calls going to the stars.
Sorta like Michael Jordan would never get called for pushing a guy to get a lil separation before hitting a game winning jump shot.

And while it sucks to be on the wrong end of those calls (and LSU has had their share on both sides of that one), you knew it was coming, and just sorta lived with it.

This year however, is going from the close calls to the "how the hell was THAT called like that"

It is starting to look down right blatant, and maybe even planned.

I hate the conspiracy theorist who say that the SEC office needs Florida and Bama unbeaten when they get to Atlanta. I've always considered people who thought like that were a bunch of kooks.

However, the evidence is really starting to pile up in their favor, and is getting kinda hard to just ignore it or shrug it off as simply "human error".

There have been a lot of calls this year that have basically ZERO logical explanation to them.

And now, the SEC commish has come out and said that any coach who criticizes the officials will get suspended or fined, to help combat the growing number of coaches bitching about questionable officiating.

So as usual, the SEC is gonna stick up for the men in stripes, and chances are nothing will be done to fix the problem.
Which is just one more thing the conspiracy theorist trot out there as evidence of a Conference wide "fix".

originally, I was hoping Les Miles went out and got himself fined for that game.
But now that i've had a lil time to calm down, I'm glad he didn't.

Slive came out and promised fines, then hit Meyer with 30k for something that actually didn't really sound like he was complaining.

If Miles speaks his mind on these officials, he'll probably be forced to sit out a game.
Except that won't be announced until after the La tech game, meaning he would be suspended for the road game vs Ole Piss.

St. Nick defending the officials

Nick Saban fires back on criticism for SEC game officials | The Bama Beat - al.com

(AP photo)Alabama coach Nick Saban is fed up with media criticism directed at SEC game officials, which was continued by a controversial non-call during Saturday's game between LSU and Alabama.

...

"I mean, can somebody stand up and fight for these guys and what they do for the game -- and probably get less for it than anybody?" Saban said.

so, does that mean the SEC gives him $30k?
