Home Repairs/HoneyDo List/Advice & Tips/etc.

I fucking hate plumbing. I tell my wife to get the hell out of the house if I have to do any because I'll probably do some harm to the relationship if she crosses my path when the fittings start leaking once I turn the pipes back on.

I have had to do this in recent years as well. Wives simply do not grasp the fact that several curse words strung creatively together are better at loosening stuck bolts/fittings/whatever than WD40. Wives also, for some reason, seem to think we'll all go to to hell instantly if anyone utters a discouraging word during a home project. Meanwhile, ask them to hand you a wrench and you're asking WAY too much of them, and they have to do everything and blah blah blah blah blah. Blah.

To AKAK, et al. -

Sink leak is fixed...just a loose ring. But during this exercise it's become obvious I need a new garbage disposal. We knew when we moved it was on its last leg but thought it would last longer than this. The rattling and noises it makes are ridiculous and it does not grind waste very well. Have a new Insinkerator picked out which includes their SoundSeal technology which is supposedly much quieter. Gonna try and tackle the installation this week. Pipe wrench on standby.

If anyone has any questions regarding landscaping on their honeydo list (which is a distinct possibility at this time of the year), I could be of some help. I'm a partner of a local central ohio landscape company and do a fair amount of consulting on folks' problems in their yards.

So you're saying you have private access to bulldozers, backhoes and the like? Damn that's badass.

As of monday, I'm OSHA certified to train anyone on any piece of machinery that I am familiar with. That's about all of them. I can't believe my job just gave me a way out like that.

I was thinking more Charles Penzone regarding the whole landscaping thing, but each to his own.

I used to mow a few Penzone Salons. Wasn't aware they did that type of landscaping, or I'd have spent even more time staring in the windows.

So the soon to be wife and I purchased a home, and we will need to do some painting here in the next month or so.

We received a few Home Depot gift cards from a wedding shower, and I was looking at Glidden or Behr from them.

Anyone suggest either of these? How about the Paint + Primer in one from Behr?

Thanks

Behr imo,but glidden is good as well. Thickness of the paint is what you need to look at. In the end if one grade of paint is more expensive but yields more coverage, then go that way. BTW- How much time you spend on prep work is a huge portion of how nice it will look in the end. Fill holes, sand surfaces even and make it look right..or it wont..Are you just painting walls?

I agree with the recommendation to go with Behr. It's easy to work with and a very high quality paint at a great price. I've tried the Benjamin Moore's and other higher priced paints and tend to go back with Behr all the time.

Yeah, I have to get some spackle to fill nail holes from previous owners. I know all about prep work as I have painted some things on my Jeep which required great prep work. I'll wash the walls to get the dirt, grease, etc..

As for painting walls, I've never done it myself. For filling the holes, and sanding, would a sanding sponge work well?
