Herbstreit rips U-M on radio

I realize it means nothing, but I get a creepy feeling when stuff like this happens.....this is fodder for UM's locker room.

Once they step on the field, it all washes away (I hope) and the best team wins....

I'll simply reiterate BB73's post. If you need "bulletin Board" material to get up fro this one, you probably don't belong playing in the game in the first place. Plus, you're probably just a worthless gay-boy.

A "true" Buckeye. Give me a break.

His job is to be an unbaised sports analyst. If he can't do that, he shouldn't be in the business.

I have no problem with him being a bit of a homer, but you can't call a guy "worthless." His job isn't to be a fan.

First, it was a local radio show, not an national ESPN show, so he can say what he wants. Second, he said Breaston was worthless in the way Michigan is using him, not in his ability.

Perhaps Michigan does need some material. They do have OOS recruits who just don't understand the game. I happen to disagree with Herbie though. I think Breston is worth about three drops a game and a short hitch for three yards on third and four.

Not a Big deal.

His comments when read in context....were no big deal. I didn't HEAR them so I could not get the benefit of voice inflection. M's offense is not playing well right now. He said their defense can't just line up and dominate. He didn't say their defense wasn't good. Just that you can't shut down an offense like this.

All that being said, I have a sort of eerie feeling. Michigan as an underdog, everyone in the country saying they can't win. Reminds me of a couple 28-0 beatings from the 90's. Mike Hart running all over the field like Tim Biaka-whatever his name was.

Well, well much ado about nothing..Is There going to be a crisis every day till Nov. 18! This game will be so over-analyzed, every comment picked apart for some hidden meaning it will probably make everyone crazy! I am looking forward to the actual game. This extra crap bores me! Herbie can defend his own remarks he's a big boy and doesen't need me to defend him. As I said its much ado about nothing.

#1 On the Michigan defense: A. "I personally don't think their defense, the way Ohio State will spread them out, can just dominate the game and shut Ohio State down."

#2 On Michigan not being able to score enough points to beat OSU: B. "The way they look right now, I don't think anybody can see that.

"(Receiver) Mario Manningham coming back, one guy doesn't make a big difference in most cases, but the reason it does in Michigan's case is because it's like a domino effect.

"If Manningham's able to come back and be the player that he was before the injury, (receiver Adrian) Arrington can go back to doing what he does, instead of being the go-to guy.

C. "(Receiver Steve) Breaston can go back to whatever he's doing these days, if they could ever find a way to actually apply him in the offense. He's worthless in my mind, outside of returning a few punts. I'll say that, and he'll end up winning the game for them on Nov. 18. But he hasn't done anything since his freshman year."

#3 On what would happen today if U-M and OSU met: D. "If those two teams were to play right now, just the way they're playing, I don't even think it would be close. Ohio State not only wins that game the way they're playing right now, maybe by a few scores."

#4 On Michigan's fans not sticking around for last Saturday's game against Northwestern: E. "If you're a Michigan fan, honestly, help me to understand, you have a team that is No. 2 in the country, you only get a chance to see them play at home six or seven times and you bail in the second quarter?"

A. -TRUE
B. -TRUE
C. -TRUE
D. -TRUE
E. -TRUE
What's the big deal here? :sleep2:

Spielman had the scUM radio play by play announcer on yesterday (he also had the TV announcer on, himself ) and he more or less agreed about Breaston being a waste of a uni this year, citing dropped passes and lack of production...

Non story in my opinion

It SHOULD be a non-story. However, it's a story because people are making it into a story. If Ohio State and Michigan each had a loss or two, Herbstreit's statements would never be news. The fans, the media, and all of the lemmings around the country know that Ohio State has no competition until November 18, and Michigan has no competition until November 18. They HAVE to start talking about anything they can when it comes to #1 vs. #2. By next Tuesday, there'll be another non-story that turns into a story that will captivate the message boards.

It's a story because of Herbstreit's national recognition. It's already made the headline at SI, so it's only a matter of time before it makes the rounds back to ESPN, CFN, CBS/SportsLine, and elsewhere.

I expect Fowler will lob a softball Herbie's way tonight during the Louisville/WVU broadcast and give Kirk a chance to acquit himself and snuff this thing out before the weekend.
