Herbstreit rips U-M on radio

He shouldn't have said what he said. It was inappropriate considering his job. I don't care if he used to play QB @ OSU, with his job he crossed the line.

Now, he is still one of my favorite sportscasters, but he shoud not have said that.
It should be noted that he said this on his own radio show on 1460 AM in Columbus. It wasn't like he was on ESPN when he said this. Anyone who has listened to him on his radio show know he's a true Buckeye homer when he's not wearing his ESPN hat.

for however long Herbie has been a sports personality, I have never heard him badmouth scUM. A True Buckeye can only hold it in so long...

I give him credit for lasting as long as he did. Michigan fans should just be greatfull he didn't bring up Llllloyds bitch tits.
A "true" Buckeye. Give me a break.

His job is to be an unbaised sports analyst. If he can't do that, he shouldn't be in the business.

I have no problem with him being a bit of a homer, but you can't call a guy "worthless." His job isn't to be a fan.

As has already been said, he was saying that Breaston is under utilized in the Michigan offense. If you want to take the word of a story trying to drum up hype, go right ahead. Just don't take offense when people disagree with your assessment of something you didn't even hear.

Doesn't matter. He is one of the faces of college football on ESPN.

He's on ESPN employee when he is on and off the job. If he wants to be a fan, he can just do his radio show in Columbus.

Why can't you call a guy worthless?? Jim Rome can say all kinds of shit and get away with it. Guess what? It's called an opinion. Grow a pair.

You said it best, he's a sports analyst. From his analysis he determined that Breaston is "worthless" to the scUM offense this season. Please do tell me how he is not.

Is Lou Holtz a Notre Dame homer?

Is Desmond Howard a Michigan homer?

At least half of ESPN's football announcers/analysts played during college, and its easy to see their bias.

Who is taking offense?

"(Receiver Steve) Breaston can go back to whatever he's doing these days, if they could ever find a way to actually apply him in the offense. He's worthless in my mind, outside of returning a few punts. I'll say that, and he'll end up winning the game for them on Nov. 18. But he hasn't done anything since his freshman year."

He did say "if they could ever find a way to actually apply him in the offense", but he said he still is "worthless" and he "can go back to doing whatever he is doing these days."

Also, who knows waht he meant by saying "if they could ever find a way to actually apply him in the offense." He may be saying he is underutilized, but he could also be saying he can't do anything in the offense. Nobody knows.

Either way, the vast majority of what he said was just ripping into Breaston. Is it true? Yeah for the most part, but you can't say things like that when you have his type of job.

And it is easy to see that Herby is a homer, and I have no problem with it.

He can be pro-Buckeye all he wants to, but you can't call a kid worthless.

Actually, when he is on 1460, part of his job is to be a fan. An extremely knowledgable fan, but a fan nonetheless. If he had said as much on ESPiN, even I would have thought that a lil tasteless, not singing "Fight the Team" on top of the Toilet bowl classless, but who would do something like that on National T.V.? Chris Spielman has done a decent amount of scUM games this year, completely unbiased IMO. But when he is local, it's a whole different animal.

And as for the "gimme a break" part...

If you were a buckeye, you would understand. This (OSU V scUM) is THE GREATEST RIVALRY IN ALL OF SPORTS. If your true colors slip out now and again, so be it. That's for the scummers to worry about, you know, all the fans of TSUN that listen to Herbies radio show.

In closing, Get over it. He is one of the most popular analyst they have. Untill this, completely unbiased to the point of him catching flack on BP. Which I may add is by far one of the most level headed (one of 'em) fan sites on the net.

In closing, I would like to add...."Lighten up Francis".

They have totally different jobs. Rome is on the air because he is a d!ckhead, and that is why he has viewers/listeners.

I beg to differ, Kirk Herbstriet accomplished that feat no more than a few hours ago...(happy gilmore reference)

And, he called him worthless the way he is playing football. It's true. My two best friends (scUMmers) agree. He didn't say Steve was worthless as a human being, did he? Now that would have been funny.

And Herbie is on the air in C-bus because he is a buckeye, and while local, he is a "true buckeye", and that is why he has listeners here in Buckeye Country.
