I don’t know coach Day personally, but I have run across him a few times over the years and my wife actually taught his son when they moved to Columbus from San Francisco in the middle of the school year when he was hired by Urbs. She had many interactions with Mrs. Day at school functions and got to know her on basic level. Mrs Day is a down to earth, normal wife who moved her family across country for the second time in a year and was trying to keep some normalcy in their family. She told my wife that she threatened Ryan that this would be their last move and he had to make it work. To his credit, he has made it work.
Flash forward a few years later, we ran across the Day’s in a local Columbus restaurant having a casual family meal and it they ended up buying our table a round of drinks and unassumingly went on their way. They are just that type of family. Good people.
I’m not saying that in some way to sound like I’m bragging, because I’m not. I’m just trying to say it in a way to humanize the Day family. They are genuinely good people. Ryan is a good dude and he absolutely deserves all of the praise that is coming his way after what he has endured this season. He created the culture of this team and has done things in his own way. Sure he took his lumps, but in the end he did what he set out to do in August. He got the job done.
This team will be talked about for decades to come. This was truly a historic run and Day deserves all the credit for putting it into motion and leading this team to the finish line, which isn’t easy to do.
Let’s soak it up and finally unite behind Coach Day. He’s etched his face on the Mount Rushmore of OSU coaches. Well done, Coach!
