HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

The myth of the "superior team" is not based on anything realistic. This team has weaknesses. They were evident all year long.

It's not a particularly strong offensive line.
The D-front four couldn't get sacks on their own.
There were no capable backups when a #1 went down.
Yes, the wide receiver corps was excellent.
Yes, the D-backs were excellent.
Yes, the defense came through in every game, except for Oregon.
But the O-line never jelled and once the left tackle went down, the running game, center-QB exchange, and pass protection suffered.

Michigan has won the last 4 games without a five-star QB, without NFL-level receivers. I don't care if they knew the Buckeye's signals or not; they consistently beat up our O-line and handled our D-line when the chips were down. They developed as a team throughout the season. They had depth in both their lines. The Buckeyes deteriorated through the season and had no depth on either line.
While I agree with a lot of what you said, that's kind of, a lot of peoples point. These weaknesses were obvious. So you coach to your strengths. Not run the ball into their 2 best players every down. It was the worst offensively called game I can remember. (maybe michigan state 2015 when Zeke was in the hospital until weds)

Also mentioned in Kelly's thread, how do people feel about Gatech or ASUs OCs?
I don't follow CFB as closely as I used to, so I don't have any names, but it needs to be somebody who will think differently than and challenge Day. Bringing in Kelly looked good on the surface when he was hired, but it's clearly not a good fit. The whole point of bringing him on was to take the pressure of calling plays off of Day's plate, but where's the improvement if they have the exact same philosophy?

They needs somebody who has the wherewithal to tell Day "this isn't working, we need to change what we're doing." Kelly obviously is not that.

Fire Kelly, Fire Frye, Fire LJSr, find as many portal OL as you can, find a portal kicker, find a punter.... thats step 1
Reading a bunch of insiders, it seems like Kelly stays(Day trusts him too much), but Frye and LJsr and shown the door. And Mick is a name who also could be on the outs as well. Again, take all of this fwiw until the end of the season. But just put the info in the back of your minds
@NFBuck , problem is pretty much every HC uses an OC that has their same philosophy. It just sucks when that philosophy gets exposed, and both men thought they needed to be "tough" and it was just that they were stubborn

If Chip Kelly stays, nothing changes. Nothing. They are the same person and an echo chamber in the offensive brain trust kills innovation.
If Ryan Day is an honorable man the buyout would not be an issue.

He did not do the job he was paid to do. "The buck stops with me - where is my next check?" just doesn't get it.
That's easy for us to say. We're not walking away from millions and millions of dollars.

That and Ryan Day needs somebody to print off the quote in my signature, frame it, and put it within eye's view all over the WHAC.

I don't know how he prepares for The Game, but I remember reading/hearing that JT/Urb made preparing for The Game a regular part of their practices throughout the season. There's no way Day is doing that. He needs to. It feels like we've strayed far from that mentality.

its been said that Urb would reserve time on Monday to prepare for TTUN, and Day echoed that he did the same, but it certainly does not feel that way

This post doesn’t make sense. Has nothing to do with honor. He’s won 10+ games every year he’s been here, runs a clean program, graduates players, recruits well and has the highest active winning percentage of any coach in the country. He’s doing the job he’s been hired for, for the most part. If his only job was to beat scum, then he is a failure. It’s not though so why the hell should he seek to forfeit any possible buyout?

Basic framework is fine. I don't necessarily think Ryan Day's offense is a bad one at all. We've seen it work beautifully. The issue is his refusal to adjust when it doesn't work. We have elements of our offense that should have dog walked this tCun team, but Day/Chip didn't use it. We needs an OC that can smack Day in the head and say we need to adjust.

I heard an interview with Urbs where he basically admitted to focusing on scUM for the ENTIRE WEEK when we had a cupcake opponent. Which explains those awful losses to Iowa and Purdue perfectly.

I've seen 2015 Sparty compared to Saturday's atrocity a few times. It is not the same thing at all. That game was played in shit weather and that was a very good 12-2 Sparty team. This was a .500 tCun team with a HC that looked completely out of place all season, with a walk-on QB, and missing two of their best players (who will be 1st round picks in April). Was it poorly called? Sure, to some extent. But there were other factors at play there that were not present Saturday. This was far, far, far worse.

No argument from me about Kelly, I'm just reporting what I read.

But if you look at any program, the OC echoes the HC's game plan. That's how HCs build coaching trees. Dan Mullen from Urban Meyer Tree for example, Jim McElwain running Saban's system was just like the offense he ran when he became a HC. HCs aren't known for hiring OCs who don't share their scheme
