HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

There were a lot of red flags with Urban at the time: washed up after Florida, ran away from Saban, couldn't control the players off-field. Fortunately, those things didn't happen at Ohio State.
I disagree with you about Tressel and Urban but that's ok we can disagree. With Tressel, did he play 100% by the letter of the law? No, but I doubt anybody in any job immediately runs everything up the chain to their superior, especially something that isn't serious. With Urban, he really didn't have any problems off the field at Ohio St at an abnormal level to any other program, Zach Smith the obvious argument against which he handled poorly. But he also took that up the chain and the police cleared the guy, so it's hard to kill him too much.

Disagree about Tressel. It wasn't something that "wasn't serious." It was multiple game suspensions for his star players serious.

Agree with you about Urban. He clearly learned some lessons at Florida as evidenced by his zero tolerance policy. Even after video cleared Robie and Hyde of being at fault, he still suspended them for "being in the wrong place." Probably cost Hyde a trip to NYC. I didn't think he should have been fired over Zach Smith (and he wasn't), but I agreed with a suspension. Scrubbing his cellphone alone demanded that he not walk away Scot free.

What tricks did Day empty out at any point this year? Even against the garbage of the conference - Nebraska, Purdue, Northwestern - the offense never had a rhythm or flow to it.
That throwback to Scott was on film vs PSU and Michigan was ready for it. They beat PSU for 2 tds with that concept.

That is an easier question to answer when the team is doing well and the job is not open. Things can change quickly when circumstances shift...can you imagine how pissed off Vrabel was watching Saturday!? Who knows, maybe the imminent NIL/portal (well, hopefully imminent) structure could make for an easier sell.
Thing is those two things are things he has specifically said he didn't like.

With Tress, it WAS serious. He knew what the payers did prior to the 2010 season, knew it meant those players had an eligibility problem, never went to compliance or the AD with it, then lied on the NCAA compliance paperwork. All because the Bucks were expected to make a run at the Natty that year. ( until they got punched in the mouth by Wisconsin) If he would have done what he should have, the players would have received 5 game suspensions at the start of the season and that would have been the end of it. All the sanction OSU received were a direct result of Tressel's actions, not the players.

TTUN is tickled pink right now, and their shitty 7-5 season is a success because they won The Game.
Because they're still high on the fumes of last year, and are deluded into thinking that this win is the start of some great turnaround...that this season is an aberration. Let them upset us in five years after we've won a playoff while they've never even appeared, and I think the glow of a win in The Game (after which we're still in the CFP) will be considerably less.

I hear you, but there are things everyone doesn't like about their job. If you have the ability to mitigate those things, to some extent, you can live with them. I am sure there are things he doesn't like about being an NFL head coach. Still, I agree, it is a pipe dream, but I'm still in the dreaming phase of my grief.

I hope that in 2 years OSU issues special instructions for scUM at The Game in 2026. They must stay in a roped off area before and after the game and be under the full supervision of CPD. Make them walk single file into the game In front of south stands and along the east sideline. Nowhere near the center block O. After game have CPD stake out the block O.

The Outhouse locker room, tunnel, and visiting sideline arrangements are such that it is literally 40 yards from visitor locker room door to bench. There is not much they can do to fuck that up for OSU. In fact, with all the fights which have happened at the Outhouse, I think Bjork needs to mandate OSU refuses to take the field unless it goes in first several minutes before scUM is allowed to go. Fuck up their traditional walk down the tunnel to the entrance at midfield where they run under the M Club banner. Make those assholes have to veer around the OSU bench

I honestly don't think Freeman would be interested. I don't think his stupid comments disqualify him, but I don't think he'd want it. ND is going to open up the bank for him after this year, and he'll have at least a few years of solid job security.. He seems to like it there also. Why walk into a complete rebuild for equal money?

I'm of the opinion to keep Day for now, while seeing how Eddie George progresses. If, however, everyone hits the portal and the recruiting class blows up then what the hell. Nothing to lose in making the change now.

One other name is Odom at UNLV. Relatively young guy who's turned a historic dumpster fire into a team that might sneak into the playoffs.
anyone who knows anything about UNLV saw this coming a long time ago. Gorman is a national HS power. Liberty is a rising state power full of huge athletic Hawaiian kids. all those kids used to leave to the Pac Ten (and even the B1G) because Sam Boyd stadium is a fucking dump. well, now those kids can play in the newest stadium in the country. Allegiant Stadium is state-of-the-art. it's a HUGE recruiting draw, so those hometown kids want to play in the nicest stadium in college football and build a legacy for themselves.

Urban was a once in a generation hire. One of the best college coaches ever, still young, that's not going to happen that often. They need to be careful with Day
Not firing someone because we’re afraid things will get worse is no way to uphold a standard. This maybe the most coveted job in college football and I think we’d have a lot of great options.

But the point is, if OSU fired Day tonight, a window would open immediately…..it’s not worth that risk for the program.
Eventually that’ll happen regardless so when is the best time for a coach to leave or be fired? If we do it then it has to be right away after the bowl loss and we better have a replacement within 1-3 days.

If we wait until the portal window closes then yes we could be in trouble because kids can leave but then we can’t get kids to transfer in.
