HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

This.

It’s inexcusable that we haven’t had a kicker that can reliably make a 35+ yarder in the Day era. The priorities are in the wrong places at the the moment. Go find a good kicker at a MAC school and poach them, FFS.

Someone saying we should make day like a GM made me laugh so hard I shot beer out my nose. Guy sucks at managing his staff and roster, he looked at this kicking situation and thought it would be good enough.

Rumor had it that Gonzo hit Troy in the head with his helmet and told him to stop eating In 'N Out. There may have been some GF drama as well.
To this point I’ve always found the “brotherhood” talk from this team to be disingenuous.

Tight locker rooms don’t have to talk about how tight the locker room is. The same can be said for tough teams or teams who understand the significance of the rivalry.

Talk is cheap and this team talks far too much for what they actually show.

Man the fuck up and let the results speak.

He seemingly doesn't have a grasp of basic fundamental football matchups, even though he *was* an excellent OC. And he's too stupid to realize when he's being played by his rival. Harbaugh is a cheating scumbag, but he's so deep inside Day's head that it's not even funny. It's tragic.

The "born on 3rd base" comment multiplied by the lack of toughness comments have COMPLETELY robbed Ryan Day of his entire coaching mojo.

Day is a massive mental case at this point. He’s out to prove shit instead of doing what it takes to win, I don’t think he can ever get out of this mind set at this point.

Punting in that situation sent a message to the offense that Day had zero confidence in them picking up the first. (EVEN THOUGH IT WAS HIS OWN DUMBASS FAULT THAT THE OFFENSE SUCKED.)
Hey I get it… but shit the way the game was going were we going to get the yard?

At the 20ish yard line is a tough pull especially with 6+ minutes left. Go figure we don’t get the ball back really though which is similar to last year. So I guess he didn’t learn his lesson but I understand why he punted.

He doesn’t have the mental fortitude to win big games. He just out talents most teams. Granted he has shown that he can light it up in a big game, but he just can’t finish.

I think this game may have broken him. We’ll see over the coming days what the fallout is in current players, staff and recruits.

This is a really great point.

2019 Ryan Day was cold, calculated killer. He'd run circles around the fake hype, fake tough guy he's become today.

He should go back to going to war with his playcall sheet every night. That was the best version of Ryan Day we'll ever see.

I think people are jumping the gun on assuming Day continues to put us in the 12 team playoff every year. I agree with what someone said above, I think this game likely totally broke Day. Could easily see a slip into 9-3/8-4 and missing the playoff next year.

EVERYTHING that Ryan Day says is disingenuous. Brotherhood, toughness, you name it. Did Jim Tressel ever talk about toughness? Did Urban? THEY DIDN'T HAVE TO! THEY BEAT TTUN!

The time is the biggest enemy at that point. Not the score, not the opponent. Time. By going for it, even IF you fail, you preserve the time and give yourself another opportunity to tie (or win) the game.

Instead, well, we got what we got. 30 seconds and an L.

He just doesn't get it. I haven't (and won't) seen any postgame shit but I'm certain he hasn't even given this another thought even though it was blatantly obvious (to me, at least) that we should have went for it in that situation.

In hindsight, the decision to punt the ball is even worse than I thought at the moment. It's awful and if it weren't for old school, conventional thinking, it would be getting a ton more discussion right now. But the game ended on that punt with our All-Pro WR group watching from the sidelines.
If he goes for it and doesn’t get it, they have great field position and are almost in field goal range to start the drive. If that happened, you and a large amount of other people would be bitching because he didn’t punt the ball away and trust that the defense could make a stop. Literally no matter what he did, people were going to say it was the wrong decision. The decision wouldn’t be nearly as bad if Hamilton/Sawyer bring down Mullins in the backfield instead of allowing that 27 yard run. That in a nutshell is what broke the camels back.
