HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

Already pretty much felt this way, but tonight was the real confirmation for me - Ryan Day is not a championship coach. He just isn't.

If you're okay with 11-2, recruiting really, really well and beating the teams you should every year, but not winning the games that make the difference leaving you without much to show for it come January, he's your guy. And honestly, that's better than 98% of programs out there. Don't think we'll see many seasons that tOSU isn't in the NC discussion under him. He just doesn't have the chops to win it. At this point, we're in year 6 and his record speaks for itself.
100%. I said the Michigan loss in 2022 was the beginning of the end, but sadly it was obvious then it was going to be a long drawn out movie to get to the actual end for the reasons you enumerated.

Maybe losing to Penn State or Michigan this year and missing the playoffs paired with a new AD looking to make a statement will finally put us out of our misery. I'd rather take a gamble on someone who does worse than this than settle for consistent B+ seasons - that is not the standard here.

Not sure if it’s been said, but pre-game was just an absolute “WTF” moment….

Day says to sideline reporter and I’m paraphrasing: “we want to come out and play a clean game and get it to the 4th quarter where we think we can win”.

I’m sorry bro, but you have arguably one of the most stacked teams in college football history….prior to last night some mock drafts had OSU with (7) 1st Rd picks in the next draft (Egbuka, JTT, Sawyer, Burke, Jackson, Igbunoson, Judkins).

The mindset is just so soft….that’s a game u go into Autzen and show the world how talented you are…..not to play anyone close into the 4th and try to win it from there. I’m shocked he’d actually say something like that.

For the first time, and I’ve stood by this dude the entirety of his tenure, I’m thinking, he just ain’t it.

He gives up playcalling to be more of a HC and his situational awareness was pathetic. Awful clock management, awful Special Teams, and just in general, awful situational awareness. I could point out (9) examples last night but the most glaring was Oregon kicking off from the 50 and blasting it into our front line of kickoff team. Guy I’m next to says this would be a great opportunity for onside kick….I said I’d just try and blast it into a player and see what happens. Sure enough, Oregon rips a kick right at our front row and recover the football. You tell those guys to step back 3-5 yards in anticipation of that, and that doesn’t happen…..

How he doesn’t call a TO prior to the 2 minute drill to save 9 seconds? Like, that’s an automatic TO to save time and he just lets the game wind down to the 2 min stoppage. I just can’t stand bad game management and he’s been awful at it for a while now….

4-3 in his last 7 games? Did I read that correctly??
It absolutely sucks knowing they will never win these types of games with Day at the helm. It’s not that they lost on the road to #3…it’s the loss looks almost exactly like every big loss this guy has had. 11-2 and and a loss in the playoffs might be the ‘best’ scenario now. With injuries and lots of history to look back on I see a loss in slappy valley, getting the L hung on you by IU while looking ahead to scUM and then rolling over and quitting against the rival because the season is over that point. If that happens and Day is still the coach next year….man…what a disaster to witness. you can kid yourselves all you want…but after last night that finish is absolutely on the table.

Not sure what to think but I won’t be expecting Day to come out of Happy Valley with a win or to ever come close to this level of financial support.
I think they beat Penn State and run the table because I think Franklin's going to fuck it up once again, but I'd be lying if I said I had faith in a B1G Championship or a deep playoff run. The losses are just looking too similar at this point.

Maybe the two best teams in the country played in Eugene last night and one just made one more play, but with how loaded this roster I expected dominance for 60 minutes. I dunno, with how weak college football is this year, even a single loss by this team feels like underachievement given how stacked it is.

4-3 last 7. This is Days program now totally. The carryover in talent and attitude from Urban is long gone. Day replacing Urban is ending like the Earle after Woody era. Ugh
It’s certainly on a parallel trajectory other than Day has continued to bring in great talent on paper. I keep thinking is he Cooper or Bruce. Leaning more towards Cooper with the way he pisses down his leg in these games.

Considering his losses, Woody Hayes said, " There's nothing that cleanses your soul like getting the hell kicked out of you."

The Buckeyes didn't get the hell kicked out of them, but I hope their egos took a good bashing.

I may be wrong about these teams under Coach Day, but it seems to me that his coaches and players believe they can just show up and out-talent opponents. "You know what we're going to do, but we are better, faster, and more awesome!" "$20 million!"

While is it incredibly disappointing, there could be an opportunity to avenge this loss in a neutral venue. If it causes the Buckeye players and coaches to respect their opponents, feel a realistic sense of vulnerability, respond strategically and execute with passion, we may look back on this loss as a thing that kept the Buckeyes in the national championship race.

This is where I am. I don’t have confidence in Day to make the adjustments necessary to be better than an 11-2 team (which is fine for all but like 5 schools of which we are one of those). It looks like the entire defensive staff is not on the same page, DBs were horrible, LBs were bad (remember we have a new LB coach that everyone clamored to hire), and the DL was meh. There is something still rotten in the Woody and it’s starting to look like it’s starting at the top.
