HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

It really is all about 1 game.
Nobody wants a repeat of Cooper era.

You can lose in the playoffs or whatever. You can lose to Purdue, Illinois, Iowa, ... even so embarrassingly that the 1 loss gives ESPN cause to knock you out of playoff discussion.
People will gripe, especially the bandwagon, but nobody NOBODY will be talking about hot seats.

That's just not true. It's easy saying that now because it's not happening, but getting blown out by mediocre teams every year isn't something you shrug and move on from. Especially when you're also getting pants'd by Clemson and Oklahoma.

I'm not sure who you get after firing Day that definitely beats Michigan and doesn't take a step back nationally. Because if you hire someone and they don't win, you're the dumbest guy in the room who thinks they're the smartest. And good luck maintaining a program when you get weak in knees every time OSU loses twice to top 5 Michigan teams.

Should've assumed this would be the case before the season and not bothered posting until later in the year. They lose 4-5 games, it sucks plus it's "I told you so" till the end of time. They win 10-11 games but lose in Ann Arbor or in the playoffs and it's another 9 months of "just wait, it'll be even worse next year".

If he’d one of the last two against scUM I’d be 100% in his corner instead of 49%.

I was surprised he didn't act more livid, I most definitely was. You go from halftime to having half of the third quarter being eviscerated by the defense being unable to get a D2 program off the field...that is some weak shit and I don't know how else to put it.

Same deal. I am really concerned we cannot pick up a 3rd and short with the run, but maybe we are reaching the point where we accept our fate there and just throw it. I hate to say that, but after last season and two lackluster opponents are shutting it down every time, not sure what else to propose.

On the bolded, I would disagree mostly because of our slate of games to start the year. We need the reps in the first three games, which are mostly a chance to audition after fall camp. At QB, I truly believe the battle was real...but after yesterday, I think it is over and we need to focus on McCord getting the snaps, sans if we are up big getting Brown reps. I expect McCord to play most of the WKU game to really prepare for ND and if we don't do that, I would be disappointed.

At RB, I loved what they did with Tre getting most of the work upfront...he got into a nice rhythm and I don't care who the opponent was, he was running very well and looked like his old self again, so explosive if given just a bit of room to run or catch. He got a ton of touches and I would have to go back to watch it, but didn't he take the first 3-4 drives? In any event you need fresh legs, and Miyan and Chip are very good players, so they have to get on the field. That helps Tre and the team really.

Sadly that approach is what we have been implementing to a point of chagrin, because inexplicably we can't get it to work. I agree it needs to be THE point of emphasis with this offense, but I think the staff has tried to make it a point of emphasis and somehow we can't get the job done. I don't think it is a lack of talent or physicality of the players, I think it is a coaching problem. Day better sort that out because you are right, if you don't win the LOS, you will not beat the teams we need to beat for a title.

I was thinking this as the Indiana game unfolded. Just stop trying to be tough already with the heavy personnel. We aren’t ttun and we aren’t Wisconsin but you know what? That’s fine. You can still be physical and you can still run the ball well. I think the largest issue is teams know what we are trying to do and especially know our tendencies.

No one is going to line up and run the ball well into a 8-10 man box yet here we are attempting to do that.

The strength of our OL is pass pro, the strength of our RBs is working in space, and the strength of the offense in general is our WR depth. I wish we’d stop screwing around, stick with 11 personnel, spread the field, throw to set up the run, and run a 60/40 offense (pass/run).

Look no further than the YSU game to show a clear example. 3rd and 3 we go big and Chip gets 1 yard. Then we go 5 wide and Egbuka is wide ass open, makes 1 dude miss and scores.

Urban didn’t lose his job because he can’t coach..Day will see hopefully he forgets counseling and starts Coaching.

Exactly. Urban was forced out because of dildos.
He was safe in his job as far as on-field performance went. Despite the exact kind of embarrassing losses 1926 said a coach here couldn't get away with.
And why was he otherwise safe, despite those embarrassing losses several seasons in a row? Because his teams always showed out the weekend after Thanksgiving.

Dude, can't agree more really. Socrates was pretty smart with that "know thyself" saying. We gotta run the ball, but the whole tough guy on 3rd and short doesn't work for us.

Stripe 'em on the pass to set them up for a short run, screw appeasing the old timers...don't get me wrong, I want to beat some ass and get a short 3rd yard play the old fashioned way. But I'd rather just get a first down no matter what. So let's do that eh?

What I wouldn’t give…. But I would be completely shocked if we primarily went with 11 personnel. We are going to continue doing this all year and IMO it won’t get any better. How can it if we are just running into a stacked box?

Where is the Ryan Day from Georgia? We didn’t run big personnel there and we threw to set up the pass (intentional said this). Now I don’t want to go that pass heavy but why can’t we admit like we did last year vs Georgia that our strength is throwing the ball.

You get that throw game going and then watch how much space Henderson has.

Day coaches really well when he thinks he's outmatched. When he believes he has the better team, he coaches scared to lose. His two best games as head coach are the two that nobody really expected him to win (Clemson Sugar Bowl, Georgia).

Tell me Urban was ever on the hotseat.
He got embarrassed by Iowa, Purdue, and Clemson.
There was some teeth gnashing, but nobody said too much because he beat Michigan.

Fair enough. Beating Michigan was definitely the saving grace, although I think a lot of grace was given due to him winning an NC and his success at Florida. Meyer's legacy has been preserved because he left at the right moment. The program didn't have a future with him at the helm. The team was winning but looked like Florida circa 2009. No future QB, no identity, and a terrible defensive staff.

I don't see another coach out there that would be given the same type of leeway by just beating Michigan. Even with Tressel, fans were consistently calling for the new flavor of the month HC to be hired. There were a lot of discussions just like this one and people seem to have forgotten.

Day isn't Meyer, but I think he gives the team a chance with NIL, transfers, and better offense for the playoffs. If he shits the bed I'm not going argue him leaving or his seat being red hot. I want results too. But there's no point in giving up and packing his bags until we see losses.
