HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

So you just forget the 22 OL? Fitzpatrick Is an option, and Tshabola may play inside or outside. And there’s the Portal as well. The OL will be fine
Possibly the most optimistic take I have seen in a while.

Not trying to bust your chops Pnuts….but you really believe that?

I see a significant drop off and the #1 co concern this offseason.

I wouldn’t be surprised to flirt with tje lower end of top 10 at times next season and the biggest reason is a significant drop in O Line play. And a new QB of course.

But to say this line will “be fine” ???

I sure hope so but…….

This will be one of the most inexperienced offensive lines Ohio State has had in a while. I didn’t go back to 1988 and check each year to see how bad the lines were. We need to look at the portal for at least some depth at the tackle position. No doubt in my mind this line will be a weak link going into next year.
Either way its going to be tough replacing Wypler/Jones/Johnson. This is where our recruiting misses might hurt us.

You hope we address things in the portal but so far we haven't had much success this year here.

I seem to remember one of the Tressel/Meyer years we were starting a TE at LT. So probably not the worst inexperience wise. But they will be young

I suppose you have to hope Jones comes back and takes over center. From there you get Enok at RG and Jackson at LG and then Fryer at RT. So still there's a lot of snaps there. However, we really need to USC 2 players somewhere.

I know most consider corner an issue but IMO that's a depth concern. OL is by far the biggest issue right now.

I’d agree with OL over DB because in the secondary you can have true freshmen and second year guys just start playing at a higher level because of the talent.

OL takes time to develop and grow so no freshmen are coming to help. None of the depth guys on the roster have flashed in any way we’ve heard. It’s portal or bust and we seem to suck at the portal all of a sudden so that’s not a great thing.

Big overhaul of the OL, same defense, a new starting QB and a much tougher schedule in ‘23. Day built back up a little bit of goodwill in the CFP but it’s going to be a critical year for him.

Yeah. And I’m going to grow a 10 inch cock and bang Alba. This is the year. I can feel it.

Edit

In case people can’t tell. I’m pretty well liquored up and pissed off. There will be no logic and I really don’t want to argue. I just want to punch my sports life in its fat, stupid fucking face.
What happens when the time comes and you get the call and you try to rotate your hips and catch her from behind, but you slip and fall flat on your face?

Twice. The first time you at least pretend to catch her just to break your fall.

How many OL did TTUN pick up from the Portal last month? Was it two?
Have other noteworthy guys come in after the bowl season?

2 from Stanford (one guard and one OT)
1 from Arizona State (their new starting center).

1 from Coastal Carolina….a very good edge DE - Josiah Stewart

(2) players from Indiana…QB Jack Tuttle who will be a backup but provide experience & TE AJ Barner. Barner will likely start in their (2) TE sets.

They also picked up LB Ernest Haussmann from Nebraska who will be a day 1 starter.

With Covid exception year to expire in 2024, they’re also kicking tires on if they can sign NFL practice players in the future. Bold strategy….let’s see if it pays off.

I keep reading “Diddy you’re a big meanie, and boring there is another portal window in May and we’re going to kill that one”.

Honest question:
Isn’t what’s available in May are guys who aren’t happy with where they’re at on the depth chart at there current school.
So I’m supposed to feel could about a tackle from IU that couldn’t crack their 2-deep and didn’t participate in spring ball here?

I hear you. But my response was about being the worst OL since 1988.
Frye guided an OL with players who'd barely make OSU's 2 deep to leading the nation in rushing. OSU gets top recruits, and loses them, it happens every year. I say that OSU will be fine, because they've produced a good to great OL for years, and even with players we knew little about. I choose to be optimistic because OSU always finds ways to win and get players in positions to win.

OSU has played DL at OT and had success

maybe it's me, but I can't get really worked up about the College Football Free Agent rat race in mid-January.

If a portal kid not choosing Ohio State is going to break Ohio State irrevocably, there's much larger issues. I honestly don't think those issues exist at this point.

There are larger issues at play. Roster construction is such that we are going to need portal inflows to shore up some obviously weak areas.

Not being concerned is fine because nothing we say or do matters but people noticing the need and our current run of non-success in the portal aren’t being chicken little over this.
It’s real and it’s right in our face.

I can honesty see the run blocking improve with the new faces starting, especially with Fryar at RT. The pass blocking is where we could really take a step back losing PJJ, Wypler and Jones. Could be TEs staying home more and backs helping out a lot more this season which changed the Offense some at least early on. Hopefully the run game improvements more than make up for it

might actually have the body types to run everyone's favorite wide zone plays
