HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

I saw a couple of quotes hit 11W today. First was that Williams has had "the most work at RB yet" yesterday or something like that. Now I see Williams isn't at the media session because he's "under the weather".

This feels familiar.

I'm thinking we are going to see a converted LB and, maybe, a 4th string true freshman at RB for this game.

Based on Kevin Wilson's comments, I think you were dead on

How flabbergasted and speechless he gets trying to explain the coaching and operational errors he sees…

that is pain, brother.

Stop fucking watching it. Seriously. It doesn't end well and only gets the blood pressure boiling

Watched it all. I have held the opinion that Day is in over his head since last year. 11/26 cemented it.

The scary part as we go forward is that his talent can mask it until he gets in a fight in his own weight class. The NIL/Transfer discussions are all over the place. Outside of his WR and QB room you can already start to question the talent of his roster and the probability of it keeping up with the elite teams.

Yes there is a risk in a coaching change but I stand by my assertion that the risk of riding Day until the bitter end is greater. He isn't the guy.

an unpopular opinion that I hate to share but nonetheless, how doesn’t one call it like they see it? That’s just roster construction, we aren’t even talking game prep/in game management where there’s obvious causes for large concern.

That Clemson game changed Day..since that win he acts like he has all the answers and is on a different level. He constantly harps on execution over the plan. If your team can’t execute the bubble screen it doesn’t matter how many times you run it. that is the definition of insanity.

yeah, probably. But it’s weird; how that caused an obvious hubris when that team got actually ripped apart like a week later 06 Florida style.

I would really like to see what kind of head coach Day would be like with a really good offensive coordinator calling the plays. I keep thinking about this.
I don’t think it would hurt on the play calling front.

The team is still going to take on his personality though. I saw another article on 11W today where the defense is “pissed off”…chip on their shoulder…prove doubters wrong…Ohio against the world etc etc etc.

All the same shit they said for a year after the last one. I just don’t see how a personality that long on empty, cheap talk and that short of substance can be a winner at the highest level.

I hope that I don't offend anyone here but I think personality is a problem. When your coach is emotionless on the sidelines after a bad call or bad play...when the QB changes an interview about a player's breakout game into a complimentary session about the kid attending Bible classes, something is very wrong.

I have strongly held religious beliefs and I have had to learn painfully to control my emotions in corporate and academic leadership positions over the years. I also had to learn that there is a time and place for emotional communication. There comes a time when dropping an F bomb is appropriate, especially in a locker room at halftime when a team of gifted athletes performs as these guys did down the stretch. If that upsets someone's religious values, tough luck.

Day and his coaches need to be on fire the next two games. They need to be in the grill of players that screw up or take a down off. Win or lose, if they can't get that done, then they need to go.

I agree but it’s so out of character for this staff..Day, LJ,Alford, Hartline aren’t that way. Trying to channel Bobby Knight, Woody or Urban wouldn’t play in the locker room. Be authentic.

Stop twisting what I'm saying. You can adjust all you want, but it doesn't replace the best player you lost. How is this a hard concept. You really think they're going to run the exact same plays formations and schemes without him when they have time to install new things in the offseason?

Fleming isnt that good yet. He runs go routes and csnt make contested catches. So you have 1 great WR 1 good WR, him and a TE that is struggling to make catches. That's an elite receiving corp? Its not hard to adjust on defense when you only have to worry about 2 guys.

We've had far less heralded WR rooms than the one we have now, without JSN.
We've lost far more important players in the past and next-manned-up.

Only this year is it a season long excuse for mediocrity for the coaching staff.

It's possible to be a bit animated (for lack of a better word) and passionate/emotional while remaining in control and no going over-the-top. Tress was actually pretty good with such a blend.

Day can be a little too static and reserved, but he doesn't need to be going full Bobby Knight either.
