HB Dontre 'DeSoto' Wilson (Official Thread)

Listening to Tom Herman's interview yesterday, he stressed that Dontre needs to become a more complete player so that they can put him on the field to do something other than a) get the ball or b) be a decoy.

I read that to mean they need him running better routes, blocking better, playing 100% even when he knows he isn't getting the ball, etc..

I agree. Although I have to ask...doesn't someone playing the "Percy Harvin" position by definition raise a red flag for defenses every time he's out there?

Sure, but if he cannot effectively do anything but get the ball, the offense won't be particularly effective when he's out there.

I get the "terms and conditions", I just found it kind of funny that he said he didn't want the defense to raise a red flag every time he steps on the field. As far as I'm concerned an opposing defense should raise at least this many every time our O steps on the field.

Against teams before Iowa, he was a terror with the ball. Going one step further, against Iowa, that made him a great decoy. Going another step forward, against PSU, the PSU defense knew not to fall for him as a decoy and then left him wide open on his "decoy" route. It is a giant game of "we know that you know that we know that you know that he may or may not be a decoy".

With all of this option talk, are you guys still living in the 1940s? Lol
Uh, spread it out and put dontre in a mismatch in the slot, with a S having to cover him 1on 1. And go 5 wide with devin, Philly, Evan, and Michael Thomas. With hall in the backfield, since he's our best receiving RB, IMO. Thatd be a high powered offense.
