Dime was an amazing guitarist, as is Scott Ian. Queensryche is amazing, as is BOC. Metal? I honestly think the definition of "metal" changes from decade to decade. BOC was metal back then. Queensryche was as well. Anthrax, well, they are metal then, and now.
I guess I just don't hear the metal in BOC... *shrug* I guess I've never gone through everything to be fair so I'll retract on them. Talk about a guy who had in influence on a part of the metal genre 30 years later... who wants to talk about how much disrespect Fripp's getting? I can see him with the dark red '53 telecaster right now. Adam Jones will tell you, I know that. Probably 9/10 prog rock/metal guitarists list Fripp somewhere in their influence. *shrug* For guys like Dimebag and Bradley Nowell (sp), their fame (and perception of talent) changes as they leave the earth in the ways that they did. Death has a profound effect on stars.
Oh, and Flea as a top 5 bassist? You're welcome to your opinion but Victor Wooten, Jaco Pastorious, Charles Mingus, Paul Davis. I am inclined to feel that the bass REALLY is a lost art when you listen to a good Jazz musician play it. Flea sure does lay it down better than any popular bassist today, but it doesn't exactly make him a bass God, IMO.
