As some have noted in Marcus Hall's thread, his latest comments about early playing time certainly leave the door open that tOSU might not be his selection. If that were to happen, our "winning" percentage will still be quite high in landing the Glenville recruits, but I it's a chink in the armor that I don't like...especially with Glenville recruits being coached to make their commitment late in the cycle.

Zook has early pt to sell at this time, this will not always be the case. Our OL unit with the Brew Crew has gone from an area of team weakness to a strength. Zook recruited 23 of the 24 Florida starters in the national title game.

My only point is, don't be too crushed if this one does not go our way.

I agree 100% with everything you posted. My post isn't a ledge jumping post, but more of a commentary about how the Glenville approach with late commitments and our "over"confidence can lead to some problems (minor for the most part...we'll live whether we get Marcus or not, but we all know we'd rather have him that not :)

Agreed...however, our latest Glenville products aren't exactly tearing things up here (Small, Rose), though I'm still expecting them to contribute. Small and now Rowell had/are having trouble getting in through admissions, while Lenix never made it in. I realize it is still a great talent pool but just saying. Anyways, I just don't want to lose Hall because it is Marcus Hall and he is a great player. Adding Hall to this class is big imo and I would hate to see him go to Illinois. Here's to hoping Illinois chokes this year...

Troy didn't start tearing it up until late in his 3rd season.
Rose was hampered by injuries all of last year.
Browning may hold off some much higher ranked talent at OL and start in his 3rd season.
Hines has shown some nice potential for the future, way too early to judge him.

O'Neal & Small have struggled. I'm not sure it's fair to judge the other three that way, and there is still time for Small. Hopefully Jamario, but he only has a few months left and is starting it out in the doghouse.

Insightful commentary. Whitner and Curtis Terry too right? You allude to the fact that sometimes our expectations are a fair bit higher than the results (of course, that happens everywhere...but since we have such a high number of Gleville recruits, it's perhaps more pronounced). So, obviously the Glenville pipeline isn't a lead-pipe lock to high performance and we may make more out of it than we should. Food for thought.

And yeah, regardless, we still really want Marcus.

Smith, Ginn, and Whitner were stars. Smith was the last person offered in his class.

Terry has started and will start this year--potentially on both sides of the ball. Not bad for another Glenville player who was the last person offered in his class.

Small has contributed. He hasn't lived up to expectations; but he has contributed. It isn't his fault they hung him out to dry in the Minne game. Besides, he still has two more years.

Browning is penciled in as a starter, and he was at the bottom of Ohio State's wish-list at lineman.

It's WAY too early to pass judgment on Hines, as he is a RS freshman. Hines is an impressive athlete. Don't sleep on him.

Rowell and Martin haven't even played a down yet.

Ohio State absolutely must keep this pipeline up and flowing.

The Next Batch Of Glenville Prospects | Ohio State Buckeyes College Football Recruiting, OSU Big Ten Football, OSU Basketball – Bucknuts.com

Toney Foster (RB/ATH) is a speedster that transferred to Glenville from Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School. Foster is in the Class of 2010 and already has landed a few MAC offers. Foster is not very big but might be one of the fastest players in Cleveland next season. His ability to make big plays will fit right into the Glenville offense.

The next great ATH/QB/WR from Glenville could be Cardale Jones. Jones played QB behind Terrance Owens last season and also took some snaps at WR. He has a great frame that colleges coaches will covet.

Defensively, Aundre Sturdivant has a chance to be a great prospect at LB. After starting his sophomore year, I expect him to have a big season in 2009. Depending on how fast he grows, he could be a major blue chip athlete.

Of this group I would say Sturdivant will probably be the one to have his own thread soon...

Thought this was worth resurfacing since there appear to be a few struggles again with regard to some of the young men from Glenville.

Agreed...not much to see on his film really but I can't ever remember seeing a sophmore LB film I was blown away with. You can tell he is a big kid that can move pretty well. He doesn't really look comfortable at LB yet, but he is going to be a player somewhere I believe. I can see Sturdivant having a Hicks-esque blow up year. Really going to have to see some junior film to make a real call where he is at in the loaded '11 class.

Sturdivant should end up as good of a player as his brother Geno (a midget linebacker who teamed with Freddie Lenix), with the great physical measurements to boot. Just hope he's better in the classroom.

EDIT: Is Cardale Jones related to Daven?

Glenville pipeline still flows to OSU
Recruits good, but not the stars Smith, Ginn, Whitner were

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

When Troy Smith goes home now, he can't believe the difference.

In his inner-city Cleveland neighborhood, little kids wear Ohio State jerseys and talk of becoming Buckeyes someday. But at his alma mater, Glenville High School, he shakes his head at the attitude he senses.

"Some of the kids now kind of take things for granted as opposed to trying to work hard," Smith said.

It's a bit disheartening to Smith, a quarterback who in 2002 became the first Glenville player to accept a football scholarship to Ohio State. He went on to win the Heisman Trophy in 2006 and now is in his third year with the NFL's Baltimore Ravens.

But the trend is also a sign of Smith's legacy. College recruiters now flock to Glenville. And every year since 2002, at least one Tarblooders player has signed with OSU, for a total of 15.

Donte Whitner followed Smith in 2003. Ted Ginn Jr. came in 2004. Those three were standouts at Ohio State, and all are in the NFL.

Nowadays, the Buckeyes' Glenville contingent lacks that kind of star power, but the pipeline flows wider and deeper than ever. Seven former Tarblooders players are on the roster, and all have made contributions this season.

Two are starters: guard Bryant Browning and safety Jermale Hines. Two others have important roles: receiver/kick returner Ray Small and defensive lineman Rob Rose.

The other three are young but have seen some action: offensive tackle Marcus Hall, running back Jermil Martin and defensive end Jonathan Newsome.

"They've done a great job for us," coach Jim Tressel said. "We've been fortunate that we've had some great players from there."

Since 2002, 15 Cleveland Glenville players have signed with Ohio State. There are seven Glenville graduates on the 2009 roster, and all have contributed. A closer look:

STARTERS (2)

Bryant Browning, Jr., G -- Started all 13 games in 2008 at right tackle and has started all eight games this year at right guard.

Jermale Hines, Jr., S -- Started six games in 2008 and seven this year. Is fourth in tackles with 41; also has two interceptions and a sack.
KEY RESERVES (2)

Rob Rose, Sr., DL -- Played in seven games, has nine tackles and two sacks.

Ray Small, Sr., WR -- Third-leading receiver with 11 catches for 147 yards, averaging 4.3 yards on punt returns and 34.8 on kickoff returns, including a 96-yard TD.

JUST STARTING OUT (3)

Marcus Hall, Fr., OL -- Played in the past four games as a backup right tackle.

Jermil Martin, Fr., RB -- Played in two games, carried seven times for 75 yards and a TD last week.

Jonathan Newsome, Fr., DE -- Played in four games, making two tackles, before suffering season-ending injury.

GEORGIA (TECH) ON MY MIND: Read into it however you want, but Georgia Tech is making a strong effort to put a hole in the pipeline from Cleveland Glenville to Ohio State.

In the last week, the Yellow Jackets have offered Tarblooders safety Chris Worley, athlete Marshon Lattimore and wide receiver Chris Overton.

All three are planning on making the trip with offensive coordinator Tony Overton to the Sept. 22 Georgia Tech-Miami game.
