Game Thread Game Two: Texas 25, Ohio State 22 (final)

Great post, Oiler. I'm thinking perhaps that the better secondary and LB corps at Ohio State may allow much more blitzing than Texas is used to and may reduce the advantage of that OL of theirs.

I think that your final assessment also is true. The loser of this game could still be playing in the National Championship game this year.

While I think our OL is still a tad overmatched by their DL, it isn't by much. And as for our DL against their OL, I think that Texas doesn't have the advantage that everyone gives them...I say it's a wash. Now, being the game is in The Shoe, at night, with national title hopes already on the line, I know for a fact that both of our lines will raise their game higher than what Texas' lines will. Thus, on Sept 10th, our OL will match their DL and our DL will overpower their OL.

I'm with you mili on this one.. When I watched this past weekends games I saw the defensive ends being murdered and held every play, and I also saw dominating play out of pitcock. I honestly was impressed with the way our defensive line got pressure without the blitzes. The thing that offset this alot was Miami got rid of the ball quick.

As for our offensive line goes. I hope we spread the field this week and work those back 7 then mix in some draws and dives with our running backs. Remember Smith is back this week and you'll definatly be see'n those QB draws and scrambles. I think this in itself will off set any advantage in the trenches while we're on offense.

Remember Texas is a running team first and we're actually prolly a passing team first. Its much easier to disrupt a running play than it is to disrupt a passing play (especially since our passes are thrown in 3 step drops usually).

I'll go with OSU 30, Texas-17

One of the biggest factors in this game is the Tressel vs. Brown factor. Tressel has proven his ability to win the big games(3-1 against Michigan and 3-1 in bowl games two being BCS and of course the Nat. Champ. We won't discuss his Div. 1-aa accomplishments) Brown has shown me nothing in recent history except his inability to beat their rival Oklahoma. Yeah you beat Michigan in the Rose Bowl. Hell, we slaughtered then prior to you squeaking by them.Bottom line is, Tressel is the better coach and with all this talent at his disposal I just don,t see Ohio state losing this game. Hell we're headed for the Rose Bowl!!!!Some sports analysts have already agreed!Good luck with OK 'cause you'll be going there with a loss!!!!:osu:

Since your rants go from 1 side to the other I was commenting on the Rose Bowl. That is the only common opponent we have from last year.

Keep in mind that we had two common opponents (OkSt and Mich). We totally shut down OkSt while you gave up 35 points in one half, at home...and don't give us no crap on how you shut them down in the second half, because that doesn't take the 35 first half points off the board. You allow us 35 points Saturday night and you will lose huge. You also allowed 37 points to Michigan while we allowed 21...and 14 of those was on their first two drives of the game before our DC decided to tighten up the defense. Lastly, the OkSt staff called our defense the best they saw all of last year, and that included Oklahoma's and yours.

Texas is a good team, but they're very overrated... I'm not saying that they're bad, but they play in the Big 12, which has become very soft in the last couple of years... The problem for them is they rely on Vince Young's legs, and he doesn't have a spectacular arm. He won't be able to run over Ohio State because of our solid defense and the only way they even stand a chance is if he can get it done with his arm, and I just don't see that happening.

BrutusBobcat: "Miami showed that you can game plan for Ginn, but that only opens up the opportunities for Holmes, Gonzales, Hall, Pittman and company."

I don't think they showed this at all. I'm positive that Tressel didn't use Ginn in any kind of package that Texas can take & use against us on Saturday.

Against the Longhorns, you'll see Teddy in completely different packages, with different ways to get him touches. If they shut him down, then we'll see if you can truely "game plan for Ginn."

Remember, Tressel's shown a tendency to hold back his best plays against lesser opponents.

Honestly? I think their backfield is better than ours. It's not like our sucks, but they are loaded. Defensively, I think our LBs are superior (fuck Mark May). Texas lost Derrick Johnson to the NFL while ours return from last year. I think our better defense evens out their better offense - although both teams are solid on both sides of the ball.

The jury is still out on Huston (sure would like Nuge this week) but I think the Shoe is the difference. If the game was in Austin, I'd probably say Texas, but I think the Bucks pull it off in C-bus.

Say...24-23.:osu:

I meant that in the sense that "containing" Ginn seemed to be the focus of the Miami game plan, not to give Miami much credit for their effort, and to also illustrate how the fear of Ginn opens up the rest of the offense. He's a key factor with or without the ball.

We've been opining for 8 months that such game plans by opponents ultimately work to OSU's favor by opening things up for other receivers and for the backs, and on Saturday we saw proof. Despite Miami's best efforts, #7 still picked up a TD and led the game in all purpose yards, AND they left opportunities open for Holmes, Hall, Gonzo and Pittman.

I'd totally agree that Miami didn't see anything even close to what Texas is going to see from Ginn in terms of how he is utilized.

We do similar things with Taylor, so at least our D has some practice at it. Given that Okie State handled Ginn I don't expect he will be a big problem for us, although he will certainly get some yards.

We're getting Musberger

I don't know if this was announced before, but I haven't seen it anywhere.

During the Miami-FSU game, Brent just said "Next week, Texas at Ohio State and we're going to be there". Not sure if he said "pardner" or not. :tongue2:
