Most folks are arguing that Zwick should start based on his performance today. That logic says he plays til he fails. But what it overlooks is practice and JT has alwasy said you earn your PT in practice. None of us know how Smith is doing.

I did see some formations today that would work very well with a mobile QB - which makes me wonder what JT is thinking about.

All that said, I just heard a caller on 1460 ask what the talking heads thought of the QB situation since he (the caller) felt Boeckman played better than Zwick today.

Geesh.

i was impressed with the limited time boeckman was in today, he looked great and like hes been in that situation before. however to say he played better than zwick just completely writes him off and makes the caller look like a moron.

I believe you mean to say he played better than Zwick but we all understand :).

I was impressed with Boeckman and I agree with the announcer that said we have so much talent we could win with any of the three qb's we have.

Grad I know you are a coach and everything, so I want your opinion. Do you think that Zwick is going to need to look down the field more to stretch the defense, b/c all that underneath stuff isnt going to work all game next week.

Honestly, I think 90% of Zwick's passes today were designed throws...the bubble screens, slip screens, and slants.

When he was given a chance with the vertical game, he did well. However, in all honesty, no matter what JT said, the Bucks did not reveal too much today. We out-athleted the Redhawks. next week will require more of an offensive philosophy instead of just getting the ball into a better athlete's hands and watching him work.

Notice how many times Ginn got the ball on various looks that we have all seen before. That was intentional.

The playcalling was wide open today...but we will see plenty more next week.

Just my thoughts bro...hope that helped.

i disagree, we spread the ball all around today, and that will work against any team in the nation. ginn, gonzo, holmes, hall just to name a few, name a team out there that can cover all of them, those underneath routes will open up the deep pass.

Completely agree. The same is true of the D. We did our best to demonstrate 'false tendencies' on both sides of the ball.

And did you notice we even ran one option when the game was already in hand? Just a little something for Mr. Chizik to think about this week.

The defensive scheme had Beckman written all over it. We disguised and rolled coverages all day which confused the hell out of Betts.

Great job for that entire staff.

I noticed that we used very few fomations today. The first few drives was basically just shot ginn and the I formation. After the first few drives I kinda lost track of the different formation we used but I would definately agree that we didn't show very much today.

Maybe I'm looking too deeply into this, but perhaps all of the quick bubble passes and screens and the like were to lull a certain someone's defense into defending the short game to set them up to be burnt deep a few times. Perhaps a few pump fakes to the quick screen pass to get the dbs to bite since they've been preparing for it all week and then toss one deep to a streaking Gonzales or Holmes. Just an idea, I guess we will see in a week.

Thanks Grad. I just hope they will be able to stretch the field.

SNG77 I think our guys can match up aginst anyone but they are going to have to stretch the field 15-20 yds. or Texas is going to press at the line.

All in all great game by the whole team and I also agree Tress didnt show too much.

Okay looking at it objectively, who's performance was better, JZ vs. Miami...or TS vs. Michigan. While this is a pretty ludicrous statement, it amazes me that people give Zwick more credit than he deserves and say that TS's game was a one time deal.

Seriously, I look at it this way, why is it that every year Texas Tech has good passing stats? Is it that their quarterbacks are that good? No, the quarterbacks are products of the system. Look at our offense today, what did Zwick do that was so special? To me, he looked like a Texas Tech quarterback that took three step drops and then tossed a screen or a quick slant. With the system, I do not hesitate to think that Troy Smith could've done just as well.

We scored 34 points in three quarters, so what's the problem? First of all, the screens are great when you have short yardage situations, but there comes a time when long passes are needed. Look at the yards per completion, and then the YAC.

With the spread formation, I'd like to have a great runner at quarterback which gives an already potent offense more punch.

I know I got kind of carried away, but I just did not see an amazing performance out there.

BTW, congrats to Zwick on a solid performance.

Though I will reiterate that I think Zwick did a fine job of getting it done today, nothing he did was particularly fantastic. Boeckman, Smith or Schoenhoft (minus the touchdown to Holmes) could have made any of those textbook throws. Like Grad said, slip/bubble screens & outs.

I stand by my opinion that there is no way with Smith we only get one touchdown out of those first 4 red zone possessions. Zwick missed opportunities to Hall, Holmes and with Smith's legs, you know he could have taken off for at least one td on the ground and also...something many people forget is that there's no way Miami can play our WR's the same way with Smith in as they do with Zwick. Zwick made good decisions today as to when to run and what not, but Smith will make defenses pay. Versus Texas, we need Smith's legs to make it harder for the Horns to scheme.

Once again, great job by Zwick...nothing phenomenal. Boeckman also looked good.

im tired of everyone attacking zwick then at the end of the post, completely writing off anything they said. smith will be rusty for the texas game most likely, why cant anyone understand that? zwick ran fine today, he threw fine today, he led our team to victory today, why is that not good enough?
