oh my god, how could you say that??
vince young is the most amazing player in the world, he thoroughly dominates every game, why once i saw him line up 10 yards away from ray lewis, aj hawk, derrick johnson, and brian urlacher and no one tackled him 100/100 times. he always can throw the football 120 yards threw a tire. hes by far the most impressive player ive ever seen in my life. he always ran circles around ted ginn and reggie bush when they ran a 40 yard dash 2gether.

there must have been a major typo no way can he have only 12 TDs last year, they mustve forgotten a 0, it should be 120.

Did you watch the game or just look at the box score? That game didnt turn around until VY stopped throwing int. he was something sick completionwise, I think he only threw 3 passes that we didn't catch, (H/w two of those were INTs).

Benson was a workhorse, no doubt, but he was not a game breaker. I think anyone will tell you that who was a Texas fan. He had Emmitt Smith like games, where you look up all of a sudden and he has 100+ yards.

Benson had a second half like that because of the end of the first half and beginning of the second half that VY had in the OkieSt game.

Benson had a 3.0 ypg in the Rose Bowl unlike Mr. Young. It will be much easier to replace Benson then it would have been to replace Young.

...but when needed he can put the ball in the air. Since we both played Oklahoma State last year, I'll use them as an example. This was a game where we were forced to put it in the air when we were behind.

On the season, Vince had a 59.2% completion percentage and passed for 1849 yds. Yes, he's going to have to work on his interceptions this season but to say that he's a running back and not a quarterback is going a little overboard.

You take away his unconsious second half, at home, against Oklahoma State, and his season stats are not impressive: 130-229 (56.8%), 11 TD, 9 INT. You also comparing his stats against those of Zwick, who was hobbled from the second series on with a bad hamstring, so OSUlite was able to tee off on the pass rush far more than they could against a very mobile QB like Young.

You say he can throw when "forced to put it in the air". Well, if it gets to the point that Texas is "forced to put it in the air", then game over.

vince young is the most amazing player in the world, he thoroughly dominates every game, why once i saw him line up 10 yards away from ray lewis, aj hawk, derrick johnson, and brian urlacher and no one tackled him 100/100 times. he always can throw the football 120 yards threw a tire. hes by far the most impressive player ive ever seen in my life. he always ran circles around ted ginn and reggie bush when they ran a 40 yard dash 2gether.

Vince should be a better passer this year. And the coaches have come out and said that they will no longer mess with his throwing style. Which is a good thing, everytime Vince tried to throw purely overhand he looked uncomfortable and threw ducks. When he dropped his arm and came at an angle, he looked more comfortable and accurate. (he usually did this toward the end of the games.)

As for you guys f'n him up, I think you guys will get a couple of good hits on him, especially on the damn zone read handoff, I am sure your LBs have been watching that play over and over again, and lets hope that Mack realizes that your LBs probably came up with a way to stop that play by now. But I think that even if your guys do get to him, you won't get a bone crushing hit on him. Glancing blows.

Us Horns fans realize that Young is going to have to come through throwing the ball to beat the top teams. We also believe that the tools are there for Vince to be successful enough in the passing department to win the big games. He doesnt have to be a superstar passer. He has to do enough to keep defenses honest.

These game tickets are going to be hard to come by, I got shut out through the Longhorn Foundation. Glad I am a donor, hopefully they will put some of that money into the academics at our school as well as the athletics.

Since we both played Oklahoma State last year, I'll use them as an example.

Funny that you should choose the Okla. St. game rather than the scUM game. Could it be b/c VY had a better passing game against Okla. St.? Possibly it was b/c that wasn't our starter in the Okla. St. game, and even the player you selected wasn't healthy. A more realistic snapshot comparison reveals passing capabilities that aren't as similar (vs. scUM):

VY: 16 for 28, 180 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT
TS: 13 for 23, 241 yds, 2 TD, 0 INT

At a glance, it doesn't look like his numbers are that different than Smith's.

I agree. That is, if you disregard the fact that Smith has a TD to INT ratio of almost 3 to 1, while Young's is just about 1 to 1.

Just read most of this thread. Wow, I thought I was pumped about this game before. I can't even fathom the magnitude of noise that will be in the stadium at kickoff. Good discussion, I really can't find much to add at this time.

Of course I used the Oklahoma State game. We both played them and Vince had a good game throwing the ball. My whole point was that he's a better passer than most people on this board give him credit for and that game was a good example.

I wish the Texas fans would watch the Alamo Bowl. There are some clips on this site that allow you to download full games. I downloaded the Michigan and Alamo Bowl games and have rewatched them. Watch the games and then come back and tell us what you think.

18 returning starters and in the Bowl game we had our second string QB in with a pulled hamstring ans was beating Okie St. 33-0. If Troy would have played(I know this is speculation) we probably would have won 40+ to 7(They scored against 2nd and 3rd teamers).
