Game Thread Game Two: #1 Ohio State 24, #2 Texas 7 (9/9/06)

Congrats Buckeyes on a great win! We did pretty well at moving the ball, just couldn't make the plays needed to score, like you guys did. Smith stayed composed the entire night, and seemed to always find the right receiver. He played excellent. Defense gave up some yards to us, but buckled down when we crossed your 40 yardline time and time again. Your team is well deserving of the #1 ranking. Best of luck the rest of the way, and hang 50 on PSU !! I can't stand JoPa.

I've never seen a No.1 team play so many players in a game when it was still in doubt. I think

this keeps all the defenders heads in the game and the battle for playing time makes everyone focus on their assignments. My props go out to J Rich, Gholston, Terry and all the OL. Acording to some the UT D-lne was the 2nd coming of the Fearsome Foursome and the OL held their own and they will get even better as the season goes on.LIl ANIMAL you are the man. this D may become the NEW LEGION OF DOOM!!

I'd mentioned it before, but this was eerily similar to our series with Oklahoma ('77 and '83). The Sooners beat us late in the game at The Shoe only to have us beat them worse in the rematch at their place.

The year of hurt of losing to Texas on our home field is now completely gone. And what's good about winning the second game of the home/away series instead of the first is that the winning feeling lasts waaay longer...

Agreed. We get to savor this for a long time with no impending concerns for losing the return.

Tressel, what a coach we have

I didn't think It was possible for me to trust Tressel any more then I did two days ago, but I was wrong. He is a great coach, probably the best in College football right now. He always looks like he is in controll of the game, he never panic's, and he gives credit where credit is due. the comment he made at halftime about the terrible call by the refs that resulted in the only texas score just showed his level of class. It was a sort of arragance that a head coach needs to have in order to be successful. ultimatly, the call didnt matter, and we pretty much pillaged Texas (especially after halftime). I would follow tressel into battle anyday. one more thing, you can always tell the great coaches from the bad coaches by how well the team plays in the second half. halftime is where all the adjustments are made, so the team that comes out in the second half and takes controll of the game...that team has the better coach. I have yet to see a game where Tressel was outcoached by another team, and my guess is it will never happen.:osu:

You and I are of the same mind on the Okie vs Buckeye series parallels.

(Given out too much rep in the last 24 hours, else you would see a minor pop on your green, thanking our visiting Horn fans took its toll :) )

Very true MB. I just hope we don't have to wait another 100+ years before we play each other again. This could be a great home/home every 5 years or so.
If we meet again, it'll be in a bowl game. OSU is booked through about 2017 on the marquee match-ups (USC, Miami Fla., Cal, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma).

Agree, especially on the part of the halftime interview. When Lisa Saulters asked about the personal foul on J-Rich that set up the Texas TD, Tressel simply dispatched that with, "The officials have to protect the quarterback." Complete class. I imagine 100 other D1A coaches would've exploded into a tirade about the officials. I cannot fathom someone like John L Smith or Lloyd Carr dismissing that call and moving on.
